• Since the West Coast is supplied almost entirely by oil from Alaska, Oregon and my home state of Washington should be awash in fuel when this goes through, driving down our fuel costs considerably. Thanks for committing economic suicide, California!

• I'm glad Main Street media still reports this kind of BS even though "Mainstream" media doesn't.

• If this goes through, and the prices increase that much, the fact that my events are all in California won't mean anything. I still won't be able to go and make a profit, so I'll just move to Texas anyway.

• Actually though, once you factor out taxes and inflation, the price of the actual gallon of gas has remained remarkably stable for 30 years. I remember $2 gas when I was in college in the early 80s, in NY/Connecticut. Right now I'm seeing it for less than tree fitty. Find anything else whose price has gone up so little.

  • Wow, 2 bucks a gallon in the 80s! It didn't get to that point in the midwest until after 9/11/2001, and even that was still a couple years later. I remember it sliding back down to a buck in 98 or so. Hovered in the 1.25 range for a couple years.

    • I almost ran off the road today. I saw gas in CA for less than $4.00 a gallon. Could be the guy who changed the sign is an OWS flunkee who can't make change without the cash register computer telling him though.

  • When I started driving, it was .75/gal.
    Problem is, the price of everything is tied to fuel prices/delivery cost.

    • That was back when quarters actually contained silver though, right? Until the banks took it all for themselves and gave us worthless paper for money.

      • Wrong again Joan. I was 5 the last year they minted solid silver coins in the US. I started driving in 1976. In NJ, the driving age was 17.

      • Silver coins were last minted in 1964 with a few exceptional exceptions. Gas wasn't 75 cents until well into the 70s. So no, wrong again.

  • Nope, gov't regualtions & taxes have more to do with the price of gas then big oil being greedy. Big oil makes between 5 to 8 cents profit per gallon. They state & federal taxes per gallon are way higher, & that along with the gov't not allowing drilling where we have oil... & not being able to increase our refining capacity...& forcing all of the different gas blends for summer travel...we would be paying about $2 tops for gas. But hey, $3 is the new norm, thanks lefties.

    • I guess john hasn't heard about the 50+ different gas blends that are required by the EPA depending on where you live!
      Not that the blends make any difference in the pollution levels, but they have quite an effect on pricing!
      Then, the blends change depending on the season as well! The winter blend (MTBE) they used in NJ was making people sick, and being found in groundwater, so they never tested it, just mandated it. It raised the price of gas 50 cents a gallon.

      • You think MTBE is bad, just wait until they make you go with the 15 percent ethanol. It literally destroys fuel pumps, melts fiberglass tanks, and has a shelf life of less then 1 month.

        • We already have 10% ethanol in FLorida. My 6 cylinder pickup is getting 12 MPG and runs like shit! The hotter it gets, the more it hesitates. I had to put in a lower temp thermostat just to keep it running. There is a Sunoco station here that has non ethanol gas, but the line is down the shoulder of the highway for it!

          Wikipedia - of all my sources I pick this one? - says; 'Sunoco stations offered as many as eight grades of "Custom Blended" gasolines from its "Dial A Grade" pumps ranging from subregular Sunoco 190 to Sunoco 260, the latter a super-premium grade of 102 octane that was advertised as the "highest octane pump gas" and very popular with the 400 horsepower V8 (299 kW) muscle cars of the 1960s.'

        • Sonoco installed new racing fuel pumps at Sears Point (Infineon) Raceway many years ago and they have 3 grades: 102, 106, and 108 octane @approx $8, $10, and $12/ gal., respectively. Glad my truck runs on 87 octane. My friend had to de-tune his '70 Stingray 454 to run on unleaded and to be able to pass smog. He used to burn leaded gas like all the other muscle cars of that era. Kalif. sucks.

        • I hope he also had the new valve guides installed. The originals wont work without leaded gas to properly lube them.

      • The MTBE was great stuff! When they forced me to put that in my car, it began to sputter as I got on the expressway. 20 miles later getting off the expressway it died. The spark plugs had melted. After changing the plugs and tuning it to idle with the new punk fuel, my car got 250 miles on a full tank. That was down from 320 miles average per tank. carol browner said that it was worth it since the VOC level was reduced by 10% per gallon of evil gas. Her math skills were immediately put into question, since having to burn 25% more evil gas to go the same distance meant I was putting more VOCs into the air, not less.

        • Even better was that MTBE contaminated the ground water. Big government totalitarian leftists are so smart!

        • That was my favorite part of MTBE, 10% less VOC's and 25% more fuel consumption, all at a higher price!
          I wonder if Carol Browner had a family member invested in MTBE production.

• Kalifornia is run by morons, plain and simple....They all want the normal folks to suffer to pay for the elitist liberal bullshit. If you don't live here, don't even bother, there's nothing left but shithole cities and overpriced tourist attractions. And while visiting this nuthouse, you'll probably end up a crime victim.
