    • My hope is that Jesus will have mercy on us. If He believes that there aren't enough of us to save the entire civilization, then it is my hope again that in His Divine Mercy He will do for His people what He did for Lot and his family. Take them out and destroy the rest. Feel bad for the rest but it is what it is. They chose their path, I am sure that the Lord reach out to them one way or another just like He sent the prophet Jonah to those people and the Lord relented His destruction of that place when they repented. If He has mercy on us all great, but I hope He has mercy on us His people and take us out.

      Funny we are talking Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot's wife like a fool looked back even though she was told not to (they were all told). With all those years living among the disgusting populace where even Lot was willing to let his daughters be raped by the mob, the daughters themselves fearing that the world was over slept with him while he was drunk. That whole entire situation is nasty. The depravity of our world is increasing just like it has in the past whenever civilizations turn to crap. The Lord can get rid of us all and do us no disservice nor injustice. Seriously this world is just nasty. It is my hope that He will have mercy. That is all that I can hope for.

  • Ya know, one of the logical ramifications of licensing same sex marriages is that biological brothers would insist on "getting married" so that they could reap the same tax, insurance, and SS benefits that the homosexual folks are after - since they can't actually have "sex" in the reproductive sense, I don't know what the logical argument against it would be. Gee, wish I had a rich brother now!

        • Depends on the state, Ghost.  Here is what I'm getting at:  gay marriage advocates want to to ensure SS survivor benefits are passed to partners, they want the ability to file married jointly, and they want to not take the hit on inheritances beyond what a hetero couple takes.  Okay fine.  Change the law regarding SS survivorship and go to a flat tax to address the tax code advantages for hetero married couples.  Other things like hospital visitation rights can be reformed just as well without redefining marriage.  I see no reason why any two people should be barred from merging their property and setting up a single domicile.  No problem.  But we know that is not the full extent of what marriage is especially within the religious context.

           Secondly, I read a Mark Steyn column today and he writes that in Canada, where gay marriage is legal, only 1/3 of one percent of marriages in that country are same sex but that isn't the point.  Anything deemed anti-gay is pretty much illegal and what they have there is the old battle about who controls language (in this case the term "marriage") controls the debate. That ensures special rights conferred and a ready-made new protected class.

          • Exactly SK. Anything can be worked out with contracts and so on. There is no need to redefine marriage. Get the govt very limited say on marriage more about protection of those that need it like children. Protecting children against predators basically but that is elemental. Get rid of tax codes and the benefits crap and this is all going away, but it is about that it is about forcing people to accept these lifestyles and destroying rights to think, rights to speak, rights to dissent peacefully from participating in lifestyles that one does not agree with.

          • Oh, I agree with all that, (already got my daughter in trouble in class after having this conversation with her last Fall, oops) I was just mistaken about the taxes and civil union. Been busy and out of my routine for a week or so, already out of practice.

            I saved 2 articles last week that you all hit on about Oregon, Colorado and guns but from a little different angle. Haven't done much more than scan the recent comments for days, try to get it up there and let you get some skeet in.

        • How does one get a GPA of 4.5? Did they change the number system since I was in high school?

          • If it's like my daughter's hs was, acing AP and college credit (placement) courses is worth just a tad more than acing a "regular" course. I could get 4.0 taking just the state minimums and all gravy electives, hers should be worth more than mine. Looks like she kicked butt.

          • Right Ghosty that's correct. If you take college level classes while in high school that adds to your GPA. And those classes count for college credit so you can finish college faster. My son will start college in the fall but he will already have credits for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, and Calculus. (I think I'm forgetting something) My son's GPA is higher...just sayin'...ok braggin'

          • Yeah, still doesn't make sense. I took college courses in high school forty years ago but you couldn't do better than an A and you couldn't get higher than a 4.0 GPA.

            What's more, the University of Michigan scoffed at my high school's promise that those courses would count toward my degree. Still pisses me off. Where's Poppa? Turns out I can hold a grudge, too.

          • Same here.. took a bunch of AP, but i never heard about the 4+ GPAs until the 90s.. AP was for college credit, not bonus GPA

          • When my daughter graduated 5 years ago, she had a GPA of 4.0 and a "weighted GPA" of 5.0. The "weight" came from taking all of the AP classes that she could. So, theoretically, someone with a GPA of 4.0 could have gotten several B's if they were in AP classes.

            It's just another symptom of the sick society we live in now. Give the average kids "above average" grades to make them feel better, but then what do we do with the truly above average kids? Conundrum! Seriously, her school had "merit" classes (for the dumb kids), "honors" classes (for the average kids) and "AP" classes for the smart kids. What ever happened to "special ed", "normal" and "honors"? Oh yeah, the PC morons got involved!

          • That is what I did in order to get honor roll. I took all of those Advance Placement and college courses and courses designed for those that want to be or are in the honor roll. The GPA went right up to 4.1 or almost 4.2 like that from a 3.0 in a year. I think if anything that really made it possible for me to get into my first choice of college and I was accepted earlier in the year so I didnt have to worry about it by the end of the year like other people around me freaking out that they weren't being accepted and whatever. I actually love them too, I got to do a lot of different stuff and got into a lot of different clubs that I would have never been able to get into and enjoy a lot of privileges and activities. It pays to apply oneself for sure. You guys are bringing me way back and giving me nostalgia and all.

    • This is why I believe that all of that should be outside of the government's control. If I want to give benefits or whatever I want to someone not a spouse I should be able to do that through a will or through powers of attorneys or whatever without the government getting involved. What if I don't like my husband and I dont want him to inherit anything? and why should my heir or heiress so to speak who is not a child nor a spouse be taxed unmercifully? That is insane! Seriously that should be under my control and choice no one else and therefore that would of course extend to all people including of course homosexual pairs.

      • It may not be the fault per se of the movement but the movement were told that there would be unintended consequences and they did not care. There is a sense of entitlement and selfishness there that I do not appreciate it. They MOCKED any discussion of unintended consequences and said they were hysterical. It is happening now and I assure you, just like the lawsuits of gays towards Christians, things like these you won't see in the media.
