Commerce Department using Common Core math to calculate GDP growth

Commerce Department using Common Core math to calculate GDP growth. Government statistics under Obama have become so ludicrous, analysts just make jokes about them rather than take them seriously. Durable goods orders went up 2% in July, down 3% in August, and down 1.2% in September, and somehow the Commerce Department calculated they added 0.48% to GDP growth.

  • Shouldn't the headline be:

Commerce Department using Common Crystal Meth when calculating GDP growth.

  • All I want to know is if the economy is doing so good, why do they refuse to raise interest rates.

    • Because, if they raise interest rates, there might be inflation, and then they would have to give a COLA increase to those who receive SS, Military pensions, and Disabled Veterans.

  • That's right. The economy is doing just great and there is incredibly low inflation and unemployment. Just keep repeating this comrade.

  • The federal government just bragged about taking in $3.5T in tax revenue. That's about one-sixth of GDP. We are lucky the economy has a pulse at all.

    • And it's not nearly enough to fund what has been created. Until someone starts abolishing agencies outright, & not sending everyone working at those agencies to other agencies, nothing will change.

      • Good point. The federal government seems to be a jobs program for mostly incompetent people ho can't make money privately.

  • I'm just an engineer and do occasionally work with numbers and math.

Assume DGO is 100.00 at the end of June.
Up 2% would mean that DGO is 102.00 at the end of July.
Down 3% in August would be (1.02*.97) so DGO is 98.94 at end of August.
Down 1.2 in September would be (98.94*.98.8) bringing end of September DGO to 97.75.

100-97.75=MINUS 2.25% for the three month period. Affirmative action economics under the universe's greatest economic genius, Obama.

    • I'm not an engineer, but I'm real good at math.
No matter how they spin it, GDP growth is a negative number.

      • I am terrible at math, but even I know this shit is wrong....All you have to do is look at the numbers...I can tell positive from negative...

        • I'm an engineer, and good with numbers, but I didn't have to use any of those skills to deduce that the government is lying. I just lookedup, saw their lips moving, and knew they were lying.

  • The decrease in the GDP increase has incremented up negatively factoring in such factors as factory output and fractional percentages of banana portions and the upward influence of increased lower spending and unicorn farts and certified pixie dust outside of the job increase losses and global warming seminars, durable goods, unaffordable affordable care, disparity with this parody and global disinterest in interest rates, the Chinese uncertainty with an expected alternative to upward revision next month means the negative will be a positive once hallucinogenics are legalized and put into widespread use, there will be some surprise if this goes as expected.
