Congress to look at eliminating the one dollar bill. Perhaps it’s time to buy stock in companies that make suspenders.

What needs to happen is we need to do away with the current crop of stupid people in Congress and replace them with people who have anything approaching common sense in there.
Yeah, I know, not going to happen.
Mainly because the drones won't vote out the dimtards, and people like me don't want to run for office.
OK, if the LOSERship wants to go there, propose to make the coin that replaces it be the Reagan dollar coin. Go figure, when that idea quickly and quietly goes away...
Marketing incompetence pretty much sums up the GOP LOSERships problem, so don't hold your breath on them coming up with anything that smells of lateral or vertical marketing competence. Killing or Defunding something, yes -- proposing something with positive conservative marketing value, not going to happen...
Y'all don't understand. If they stop making $1 bills, then the $10 bill becomes the new $1 bill and they can move the decimal point over on that $16 trillion debt. Voila! Just like that we only owe $1.6 trillion.
Yeah, then watch what happens to the exchange rate, yikes.
BTW, when I was in Canada, no $1 or $2 bills. Those are coins there. I felt a little dopey when I needed that explained to me when I got my change back when I bought something to drink at a Canadian Football league game on my 1st visit there. The gal working the consession stand noticed I was confused when she gave me my change, I told her I was up from the USA. She then laughed & pointed out "That's a $1, that's a $2, & we don't have bills lower then $5". I thanked her & moved on.
If they do that how would they tip all of the strippers that they visit? This is just a crock.
We have much more and bigger issues than the dollar bill. Benghazi, the so called finical cliff, the Chinese are developing state of the art naval and air crafts. So stop wasting time on such stupid stuff.
They have a coin slot.
Oh, no. I didn't. I apologize.
The Federal Reserve has decided to print a 3 dollar bill with Obama's queer face on it.
Hey, Barney Frank is going on the $3 bill.
Hey, Barney Frank is going on the $3 bill.
Aww man, that just sucks.
That would be too much of an honor for him.
Don't you have to be dead to be on currency?
Do you have any physical or mental disabilities you would like to tell us about?
Isn't that obvious?
I'd give $.03 and 2 sheets of toilet paper for one of those. :-)
Maybe using metal instead of paper is a step in the right direction. Even the cheapest metal is worth more then paper, so it can stop the mass printing of fiat currency.
Except that the coin is still backed by nothing but the intrinsic value of cheap metal. We'd still be reduced to a barter economy if the monetary system collapses as no-one is going to accept that cheap metal as currency when there is no shortage of it. It's called currency for a reason. It is the primary tool of the facilitation of trade and exchange.
So don't use cheap metal. Maybe make a $10 and $20 coin with silver and possibly a $100 out of gold. Copper for the $1 and $5.
Then we'd back to a commodity backed currency. In theory it sounds nice but given the current money supply and the fact that the rest of the world uses a fiat currency but hordes gold and silver, we'd have a whole new set of problems. What and how would the treasury get enough metals to back our money? Answer: it can't because those metals would get more and more expensive as the government scoured the earth trying to buy them up to a point where it covers the money supply.

I still say that gold and silver have no more "intrinsic" value than a slip of paper. Apart from some minor industrial applications, the only value gold has is what we place on it as a society, in our market. It is almost purely ornamental, and has no practical use in the way that a can of stewed tomatoes does -- when the going gets really tough, what would you rather have --- a cellar full of gold or a cellar full of store-brand beef stew?
Precious metals are valuable articles of exchange only in an established and stable marketplace, but the scenarios we're contemplating here are exactly the reverse -- we're contemplating a catastrophic failure of all that. So unless you're planning on taking your gold and just getting the H out of here to some other place that is going to hold together -- NZ/Aus., maybe or possibly parts of South America -- ditch the gold, invest in 50kg sacks of rice and powdered orange juice.
Paper is available in much greater quantities then metals. We can always grow more trees for more paper. There is only a finite amount of gold and silver in the ground; and as elements we can't just make more or it.
wth does paper have to do with currency?
ans: not a damn thing, ya bogus twit.
TD/MO for the all of a sudden monetary guru Creepy Crowley. The man who only knows how much his welfare check is and how much Cheeto's cost.
I don't know how much cheetos cost. Probably too much considering their essencially Corporate Greed's poison.
That's cause mommy buys them for you with her welfare check...
TD,............MO.
We're done here.
"We can always grow more trees for paper..." For real? I thought Global Warming was eating up the ability to grow anything, and that cutting down precious trees was just one of the many factors that contribute to Global Warming - along with the fact that so many human beings remain breathing on this planet - including Al Hore and n0bama. ;-)
The metals are universally convertible and that is probably its greatest quality. Otherwise it really isn't much better than paper backed by the issuing government's stability and perceived credit worthiness. When things get tough I'd rather have a vault full of food, medicine, and other survival necessities than a bunch of bullion.
Then decrease the money supply when these coins are implemented. For example, someone with $100,000 can trade it in for $10,000 of the new coins. Meaning that $10,000 would have 10x the purchasing power then it had when it was paper currency. Thus, prices would adjust via deflation.
Steal somebody's 90 grand? You must really be a Democrat, or just stupid -- I know, much the same. It's easier and a lot more painless. The banks and the Fed do it all the time -- as currency wears out, it is withdrawn from circulation and destroyed. Fo five bucks on Ebay you can get a sack of confetti that was once about 50 thousand bucks, literally. If you're going to replace paper with silver, nothing needs to be confiscated. Just gradually the banks pull in the paper cash, send it back home, and they get it replaced with the new coinage to put back out in circulation.
You'd still have the full worth of your original 100k because prices would adjust via deflation. A $500,000 house would be $50,000; a $5.00 fast food meal would be 50 cents; etc.
You guys look funny talking to a block wall.
Would that be before or after we start paying fast food employees $15 an hour?
Dumbass!
TD/MO and Turds for Creepy Crowley
My God crowley, THAT just might be the first semi intelligent thing you have ever posted in your life.
But I still gave you a TD because, well, lets face it, you're you.
Awww, I got a TD. Hiya fweetness, and Merry Christmas, you putz.
lmao
We should eliminate Congress and the White House. Both have conspired to make our money nearly worthless.
Those are constitutional, but so many of the angencies that oversee things like energy, education, & agriculture are not. They have large building that are full of lawyers who spends billions & we see little in the way of return. Start with that, & move on to the next thing that should be gone.
You say that, but why didn't you vote for Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is great on those things, but would be horsesh!t on dealing with America's enemies. Almost as bad as Cater & Obama. Ron Paul should oversee what's going on with The Fed, but that won't happen.
Also, Ron Paul's supporters have been increadably harmfull to his campaign. They tend to outweigh any of the good he has to offer, & are almost as annoying as Obama supporters. You are a prime example of that here.
TD,...........MO.
Savings of $4.4B over 30 years! Wow!
Makes you wonder how much we would save if we cut out food stamps!
And foreign aide and military
I wish your parents had forced you to go in the military.
They don't take overweight mental patients....
The military doesn't have any use for morons like Crowley.
TD,..........MO.
he'd make a gr8 silhouette.
