While we admire New York Republican Tom Reed’s concept, even he must know that his colleagues on both sides of the aisle are unlikely to agree to anything that might give them pause before they piss away more of our money.

The Hill has the details of a great idea that’s going nowhere:
Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) last week introduced a resolution that would place a clock measuring the U.S. debt in the House chamber as a “visual gesture” that reminds members of the need to reduce spending.
“We are currently borrowing $58,000 per second,” Reed said last week. “We borrow at least forty cents of each dollar we spend. That is unsustainable. The debt clock will be a distinct reminder that our national debt must always be our first consideration as we continue to spend money that we do not have.”
Reed noted that the total U.S. debt reached $1.5 trillion in the U.S.’s first 193 years, but said the country will add that much in red ink in the current fiscal year.
“The voters of the 29th district of New York elected me to get our spending and borrowing under control,” Reed said. “We must never lose sight of that fact that our children and grandchildren will quite literally pay tomorrow for the decisions made today.”
What? Only $58,000 per second? C’mon, Congress, don’t let that impertinent New York Congressman get in your way. With a little effort you can get that up to $60 or $70 thousand in no time.

For once this is a good use of tax payer money and an excellent idea to come from a congressman. That way every morning and every night barry can see the cost of his STUPIDITY
Debt will be reduced and debt clock will go in reverse if:
Abolish the department of the IRS. 10% sales tax for EVERYONE instead
Abolish the communist EPA
Abolish any US involvement and funds to the communist United Nations
Abolish the Dept of Education: kids are not even taught cursive writing anymore
and athesim is shoved down their heads (communist Darwin THEORY, not even
proven scientific facts).
Abolish the Federal Reserve which have nothing to do with the Federal
Government, private banks spending OUR money putting us in financial ruin.
Well, it's only fair that if the debt clock is displayed, then the Obama Countdown Widget be displayed too...

$58,000 per SECOND!?!?!? That’s more money than the average American household makes in a year.
This is easily 10K more than I make a year and I stay within my income! It boggles my mind and infuriates me at the same time, why I have to pay the wages of these profligate asswipes, as they continue to spend our money like there's no tomorrow! Every entitlement class should be prohibited from voting, for they are the cause of our problems...all of them!
Hey....maybe Nancy Pelosi could then be good for something. I'm sure her face could stop any clock!
A debt clock. Did you say A DEBT CLOCK??? Maybe the dems are afraid of hearing the sound of the Tick Tock...
I seem to remember a crocodile named "Tick Tock."
$58,000 per SECOND!?!?!? That's more money than the average American household makes in a year.
Most definetly $30K more or less is still the average regardless of inflation and rise of price in commodities and so on. This is surely disgusting that Obama has spent MORE MONEY than every other President in the world? It is disgusting.
"$58,000 per SECOND!?!?!?"
Makes you want to slam on the brakes! That's the image I get. Extreme Danger Ahead!
The left must see it, or they just don't care.
Has the majority of those on the right done anything to show us that they are aware of the problem?
We did make an impact in the 2010 elections and thanks to the Tea Party movement some of the RINOs' have moved a little more to the right, but your right, it needs to be much harder to the right.
Members of congress that agree to a debt increase are traitors to the United States, the constitution, future generations that have to repay a debt that has grown past the point of irrational decision making by corrupt power brokering of the self appointed elite. The government has created a cultural class of parasites that live within the entitlement mentality. A mentality that is created and flourishes at the hands of government, the nanny state that will tax those who work to provide for those who live by doing nothing. Government does not create wealth; it simply creates new departments and dependent consumers by taking it from those who do create it, than have it taken from them and than rationed out for election votes to those who now find entitlements a right and political power! This entire theatrical play is not about America, it’s about the most disgusting, contemptible, phenomenon corrupted by humans with no morals or ethics; politics.
In the last two years we have accumulated national debt at a rate more than 27 times as fast as during the rest of our entire nation’s history.
"Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
-- President Ronald Reagan
