“I think the problem is that the poor children, keep in mind it’s 42% of poor children who live at or near poverty, it’s 25% in poverty. Our audience needs to keep that in mind.” Cornel West said on MSNBC this afternoon. “Poor children need more than just a $1,000 for their family, they need a war against poverty to make it a major priority in the way which we have a priority for Afghanistan, and a priority to bail out banks, and a priority to defend corporate interests when it comes to environmental issues,” West said about more and new entitlements for the poor. Professor West didn’t just call for another war on poverty (the first war was fought by Lyndon B. Johnson), but went on to say that the push for more entitlements “is going to be fought in the streets.” Hey Cornel we already had a war on poverty. And it cost the tax paying class trillions. You’d think a guy that made an entire career decrying the evils of a slavery that existed over a century ago wouldn’t be nearly so keen on bringing it back.

Is it me, or since "Dear Leader" somehow cheated his way into the WH, the race baiters have been coming out in droves threatening violence if we don't continue to give them everything for free?

It would seem Dr. West is putting forth the age old argument that society is once again not doing its part to save the wayward and or the downtrodden. Lets us ask Dr. West a few pertinent questions and see if we can bring some clarity to this simple yet opaque course of reasoning.
While I would never bring to question Dr. West facts as stated as far as the percentages of poor children with the United States. I would however bring in to question the reasons for those numbers as well as what the proper response as a nation should be.
First as to his assertion that a $1,000.00 per month from the government is not enough for a family I agree it’s not. What a family needs is either parents at home or at least both parents providing the support that children require not only to survive but to thrive. I would argue that parents that perform that task not only provide for there children but also society as a whole. The forward edge of the battle area (FEBA) in the “war against poverty” of children should start with the front line troops. That would be the parents and like those troops in combat who fail thru cowardice to perform there duties that the parents who fail to perform theirs should be held accountable to the highest standard.
I would ask Dr. West at what point does someone else’s lack of personal responsibility infringes on my rights. Because when the government uses my ammunition (money) to fight the “war against poverty” of children I have less to hold my own position on my home front.
I would also argue with Dr. West priorities "Corporate greed now is an issue everybody has got to talk about. Wealth inequality. Everybody must talk about it because of the Occupy movement,” While the words “Corporate greed” may provide the red meat for the Occupy movement it means something completely different for those of us who fight on the FEBA, it means JOBS, because without profit other wise know as “Corporate greed” there would be no jobs. Jobs solve the problem of “Wealth inequality” far better that any government program ever devised.
I think brother West, I think he does miss the point, I say.
