In a way, Santa Claus is being crucified. He is being marginalized and derided by secularists who will no longer even tolerate myths if they are even remotely connected to Christianity.
And once again, I don't get "art." This makes no sense, and the overlapping of secular and sacred traditions makes the whole thing ridiculous, not to mention insulting to those people who DO celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday.

The light show was awesome and the coordination of music and lights was amazing. The music? well. . . can't have everything I guess!

I loved Dio, & I'm still saddened that he died last May from cancer. Great voice, & I never heard anyone have a bad word to say about the man. He was my 1st arena concert back in 1986 at the old Met Center, front row for the "Sacred Heart" tour. That was a great night.
I hear ya.. i don't mean to diss, i just wasn't exposed early. I did like Rainbow in the Dark a lot.. Last year I was pretty bummed about Peter Steele dying too (Type O Negative), so.. yeah, sadness.. Even Layne Staley, to this day.. like a decade ago? [ cue Nutshell, contemplate mortality ]
Do you guys watch That Metal Show on VH-1 Classic?
Sounds like it's something you might enjoy. Although this weeks guests might not be to your taste, Marilyn Manson, and Biff Byford from Saxon. Last season they did a Dio tribute show. If for no other reason, you should watch it to check out Jennifer!!!
I have watched That Metal Show religiously since it hit VH1 classic. Love it, & I love watching Eddie Trunk just go off about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Also, Jennifer Gottlieb is very nice, but it is sad that the girl she replaced, Keri Leigh Tucker who passed away at 25. She was in seasons 2 & 3. I also have loved the series "Metal Evolution", done by Sam Dunn, who has worked with Iron Maiden on "Flight 666", Rush on "Beyond the Lighted Stage", & "Metal : A Headbanger's Journey". Those have also aired on VH1 Classic.
Personal note, I will be seeing Lacuna Coil in Des Moines on Feb 13. Then the next night, Feb 14, "Gigantour", features Megadeth, w/ Motorhead, Volbeat, & Lacuna Coil. That's back home in the TwinCities, then on May 8, Rammstein at the Target Center. I cannot wait, it's been a decade since I saw them last.

LOL yeah sometimes they even creep me out.. Probably goes to RKae's point.. I've always been a fan of horror, but now the tweenies have sanitized & mainstreamed it (even santa-ized, we now see..)
Yeah, my daughter is all about those Twilight books and I picked up the first one for about oooo 15 mins. After the first chapter was over I had to fight the urge to throw it on the table and "accidentally" spill some beer on it. I ended up buying her Interview with a Vampire and she got halfway through and told me it was boring.... Kids these days... If it doesn't sparkle its not interesting.
The Twilight wseries is more of a romance collection than true horror. But the marketing of all things macabre seems to be the deal of the day, no matter how sanitized it is!

Whose kids AREN'T turning out macabre? I was at an elementary school book fair and pretty much 90% of the books were based on something occult: vampires, zombies, vampires, wizards, vampires and vampires. It seemed everything had a dull grayish-blue cover with dripping gothic letters. I realize publishers are the least imaginative people on earth, and they only know how to copy what's "hot"; they're all a bunch of Johnny On-Notes, but it sure would be nice if they could get stuck on a nicer note.

How would anyone possibly get what the artist is conveying? Maybe if the cross were covered in credit cards, or there was a giant golden coin that doubled for a halo - then you'd be getting into the territory that the amateur expressionist is supposedly hoping to evoke. As it is, it fails as an artistic statement and it even fails as a crucifixion, when I read the headline, I was imagining something far more grizzly and proficient. This looks like a cheap decoration left over from Halloween, but what is the county thinking allowing this to be displayed on their lawn?! THIS is how you choose to officially represent your city?! The whole thing is more "embarrassing" than "controversial".
