This is EXACTLY why the Founding Fathers were deadset against a standing army in times of peace. There are examples through history of professional soldiers being turned on their fellow citizens by a despot. Both the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists were leery of standing armies (after the Redcoats, who could blame them?) I'm not sure what the alternative is, but there needs to be a much tighter control on the military by "We the People".
The only problem is without a standing army we would be a target for invasion.
However, we are the best armed citizenry on earth.
Let's hope we can stay that way, seeing as how the Marxists are trying to steal our guns and then steal everything else...before they enslave or murder us!
I don't think it will go so easily for them as it has in the past. We're much better educated to their motives and methods now.

They where only extremist to the king and to those today who feel the government is the end all, be all.
It's time that those who spout ignorant stuff need to be challenged at every utterance. If the DoD is pushing this and like statements, that is an alarm that needs to be heard by every single citizen.

Sad to say, but while my son was going through Marine Boot Camp the Drills were already prepping young marines to be prepared to fire on their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, or grandparents if they were ordered to. This shit was happening under Bush II, so this crap's been going on for a while. Now that the Commies have the guns, they feel justified in using them...on those of us who won't walk the walk, or talk the talk!
THIS SORT of 'mind set' was being promoted as far back as 92, when I had a conversation with a young Sgt. in Indianapolis. Why should anyone be either shocked or surprised? In every tyranny, the government troops are taught that it's alright to kill the opposition. Also, there are instances in American history where American troops fired upon civilians.
As for the 'Founding Fathers' being considered as extremists - why is this such a hard concept to embrace? They were rebels to the English Crown - extremists against the designated order of things. Is this so hard to accept? How many Tories migrated to Canada after the 'rebels' won the war? (a lot) What was the percentage of American colonists who actually fought against the Crown during the Revolutionary War? (very low - less than 50%). It was a REVOLUTIONARY war - this means that there must automatically be someone who is the extremist revolutionary.
Get over it - the revolutionaries won! Let's just make sure the same revolutionaries win the 2nd time around too! Amen!
The biggest issue in any popular uprising is 'bold' forbearance against the established tyranny. Sometimes it takes decades of bloody commitment before a victory can be claimed - all the while children are growing up, parents are dying and lives being changed. War is costly, in lives and treasure - lives disrupted, plans changed. Americans are addicted to comfort - not used to voluntarily suffering on a massive regional scale. We are spoiled, letting the ruling elite take care of us and our social needs.

Yep, the notion that the military won't turn its guns on us is naive. In my day it would never likely would have happened but I served 25 years ago.
My nephew is soon to be discharged from the Army. I am going to have to discuss this with him, however, my niece's boyfriend is an Iraq Veteran, and I know where his mind is about this, as well as all of his comrades. They are true patriots, and would fire on their commander before firing on civilians that aren't firing on them.
BTW Kick, you're right, I went through NCO Academy over 25 years ago, and they would not have ever thought of trying to tell us that we would have to follow an order like that.
