Yet again another hair brained idea that WONT WORK. As has been pointed out by Progressive Hemrrhoid the 2000 will then become taxable and at 40% because der leader and friends will try to claim it as a bonus payment, all anyone will get is the shaft and their name on yet another watch list.
Im of the philosophy that anyone who purchases an assault weapon should receive the tax credit. We are keeping Americans employed and stimulating the economy. Then we will be able to protect ourselves and not have to depend on the federal govt to do it for us. I know that they want all of us to be dependent upon the federal govt for every thing.
A Republican Representative should do just that - offer a $2500.00 tax credit for anyone that can show proof of purchasing a semi-automatic weapon - and make it retroactive back to Jan 20, 2009

Actually, this could be a good money-maker. How much does a new weapon cost these days? I figure it's less than 2K (although I could be wrong given the run on them recently.) If you can still buy them for significantly less than 2 grand and sell them to the Feds for that.... it's better than Cash for Clunkers! Of course, you make sure you buy more than you sell back to them....

I have an AR, not one of the ones they're talking about, but an AR-7 .22 cal survival rifle, but the sear on it has worn down to the point that it will randomly go full auto briefly. It is about a $100 rifle, so I would turn it in for the $2k and buy something better.
BTW, I have an ID that I can use when turning it in, so that they won't know it was me, and they will tax the other poor sucker in the end!
To be an assault weapon it must be capable of full automatic fire, it is a military definition.
