Detroit facing hostile takeover by state of Michigan. Gov. Rick Snyder is reviewing Detroit’s finances, the first step toward a state takeover. If he deems it necessary, he could appoint a manager to run the city who would have
virtually unlimited power to do whatever it took to fix Detroit’s finances. It’s like having a deficit super committee that actually was a deficit super committee.

They have a word of this kind of behavior, it's called Fascism, and if I remember right there was a world war fought over this concept, a war that claimed literally millions of people's lives, and some of those people were Americans. Was it all for nothing, are you people really going to piss on all those soldiers who fought and died in Europe for you, so you and your family could have a better life.
Michigan is your home fight for it.

Regardless, the 'contents' of Detroit will remain in Detroit......That makes it an impossible task to ever 'rehab' Detroit......
Yes, have you ever watched Hardcore Pawn? This guy deals with the worst element in Detroit on a daily basis. Part of the problem in Detroit is that they have allowed it to become the Vegas of the Midwest without the level of law enforcement that Vegas has.
Hookers, dealers, crackheads, etc aren't what people want to see when they go on a gambling vacation.
I think what's even worse than the trash that shows up at Hardcore Pawn is the REAL criminal element of Detroit. A gangster isn't going to the pawn shop when he needs some money, he'll just steal it, or sell some more drugs.
I do love it when people show up in the pawn shop and TELL the people how much money they're going to pay for the useless crap they want to pawn. It's a laugh a minute!
And then they get indignant and violent when they are told they won't get what they want!
Then they get escorted out the door with their junk. "Don't you touch me!" It's good comedy, while at the same time being a very sad commentary on society.

It's just starting for Detroit. Buffalo NY has been under state board control for years, as is Erie County where Buffalo is located. Nothing's changing for the better - it's only getting worse. Buffalo has its head up its azz thinking architecture is the key to bringing people back. Fools. Libs leading libs ... the blind leading the more blind. Both cities are doomed. Taxes will continue to rise chasing more people out of the area. Wait for the mushroom clouds.
I think people are afraid of the outcomes of failure (17th place anyone?). We are constantly awarding/accepting mediocrity and failure. Bailing out businesses/people/cities whose model has failed. It is important for all people/concepts/businesses to fail as that is the inevitability of all things. And then..what used to make America great was the desire to pick up the pieces, learn from it...and get better. Too bail them out simply enables failure.

The way I see it, Detroit is dead-locked in a vicious cycle bound by the UAW/Democrat control for the last 40+ years now. Everyone knows something has to be done to change this. However no one within the city has, or wanted too, change things. Finally, someone is doing something to stop this insatiable monster. My hope is that whom ever is appointed guts the monster mercilessly, because that monster has shown no mercy for the people who make up the city of Detroit.
I also fully expect a petition to recall Gov Snyder statewide, which most likely will be funded in part, if not entirely, by the UAW. Except I think they will be surprised to find out just how many within Michigan are not too pleased with Detroit's decay, and the UAW in general. And are still feeling the sting of the Granholm years.
As far as raised taxes go, some may grumble, others just all out scream. But if corrupt city officals are indicted, jailed, and people see the Union gutted, maybe it will be worth it to see a thriving, growing city again. Most who where born in the 1960's onward dont remember what Detroit used to be, only what it is today, total decay and ruin. Where once stood grand buildings and great innovative men now are drug houses and gang violence so deep within the interior it seems almost impossible to stop. A full scale turn around of Detroit is in Michigan's best interest, no one likes what it is today. Most despise what Detroit has become. Until this article I'd never known the Governor could issue such a takeover. I am hopeful for the best, and if it cuts the union grasp and power, it may not be such a bad thing. I hope it is the begining of a true revival, not just the faux one seen in chrysler commercials.
I lived in Oakland County and commuted to downtown Detroit during the Coleman Young regime. It was awful then I can't imagine what it must be like now. The state probably won't be able to fix it without taxing every Michigander. That will not sit well with the populace. Even the lefties in Ann Arbor will have problems with that.
My sister & her hubby lived in Novi for about a year back in 84/85, & the best thing that happened to them was when the company he worked for was bought out causing him to lose his job. They moved right back to the TwinCities, MN & picked up where they left off before they moved. Leaving Michigan was a blessing.
Detroit officials who've gotten theirs will be negotiating for immunity from corruption charges in order to ensure a smooth transition of power.
I think they ought to cut to the chase and go ahead and send in ROBOCOP.
