Disabled veteran says United airlines staff kicked his service dog and asked if he was retarded as delays forced him to spend THREE days at the airport. United should give this guy a lifetime free pass to fly first class and fire the offenders.

I understand that in dealing with the public you meet all kinds. Nice people, not so nice people, and absolute morons. Believe me, I get it. Try dealing with those when they are sick! At any rate, NO EMPLOYEE should respond t the idiots in kind. It reduces you to their level, reflects poorly on your company (which, after all is paying you to be there. No customers, no job.) and for most make you the bad guy, because the people around you haven't heard the problems you have been having all day.

  • I am a veteran, have PTSD, a service dog and work for United Airlines. Please do not get me wrong, I am not saying that this did or did not happen. If someone kicked my service dog,I would have immediately got their name, supervisor and the police. If I could not get their name, I would make sure I got a description and watched where they went. Since he did not get names or report this to a United supervisor, he has left United with no recourse, good bad or indifferent to respone to this situation.

  • And everyone wondrs why these guys get angry and punch someone. I have reservations about the complete accuracy of the report, but I have seen and on several occasions experienced much the same thing. And that was a while ago when the airlines sort of cared if you were happy with their service. Now I'm sure it is MUCH worse!

    • I expect things to get worse at United before they get better. I worked for the airline that merged with United recently. Our stats, all of them, have gone in the toilet since. I've traveled and personally experienced the incompetence of the gate agents and one downright rude flight attendant. I have no doubt the guy had a horrible experience and was treated poorly, but I still can't see someone kicking his dog on purpose. Twice, impossible. Speaking of kicking the dog, does this guy seem like he would let you walk away from kicking his dog so hard she was injured?

      • And not say anything toanyone, just "let it pass?" Probably not. I was surprised when he said that. I certainly wouldn't have tolerated anyone abusing ANY pet I saw, particularly mine!

  • I gotta throw the BS flag on this dude. He mentions that he kept pestering the gate agents. Odds are pretty high that he was acting like a tool to the gate agents. Act like a tool and they will reciprocate. Act like a tool to a United gate agent and they will reciprocate in spades! Need your meds? Pack em with you dumbass, not in your checked baggage. Unless you're blind, you don't need a service dog to fly on an airplane. Put Sarge in the bag bin where he belongs. Methinks asshat is looking for a lawsuit.

    • I don't know if he was being a tool or not, but there is no excuse to kick a dog unless the dog is a danger to you and the odds of a service dog acting agressively unprovoked is absolutely miniscule. There are many medical conditions aside from blindness where a service animal is useful (deafness, seizures,etc) and legally are allowed in any public accomodation. I'm all for less government regulations, but this is one that is actually positive.

      • And she might have been stuck in the belly of the plane for the entire time, no food no water and no potty breaks. Not helpful AT ALL.. I agree about the medicine. I have NEVER flown with my meds checked. Just like I try to fly with a carryon, a purse and a hanging bag, so I don't need to check luggage. If they don't have it, they can't lose it.

        • Rose, she had no food traveling with her master, he mentions that fact repeatedly. Animals are loaded last and only before the bin door is shut for flight. They are kept in the shade or in A/C and they are watered and fed as instructed by the label on the crate. In this case, he would have been escorted to come walk his dog for a potty break if needed.

          I think this fellow needs to travel with his wife or another capable adult. I think his needs are not being met by a therapy dog as evidenced by his repeating the same mistakes with his dog food and meds. If he can't read, a travel companion would be helpful too.

          • But moron man didn't have access to her food. Maybe this was a brain injury issue, maybe he's just stupid, but they can't feed her if she has no food! And they are not going to unload half the luggage on the plane to look forhis personal bag to get her food! He does sound like maybe he needs a companion, especially when traveling to unfamiliar places, and off his schedule.

      • I'm pretty sure that a United employee or anyone for that matter would not go out of their way to kick his dog intentionally. Twice.
        I'll stand by my original assessment, BS.
        There's a difference between a service dog and a therapy dog. This guy has a therapy dog that he's labeled a service dog to get the perks of traveling with such. Nice spacious bulkhead seat with priority boarding.

            I don't doubt for a second that this guy had a shitty 3 days at the airport. I'm pretty sure the United agents were rude and shitty towards this guy. Kicked his dog? No effing way. Accidently bumped into his dog in an environment where dogs are almost non-existent because they didn't expect a dog to be down there? Most likely. What would you bump into a dog with? A foot.
            I have to question the guy's integrity too. He mentions to the gate agent that he can't read because he has a brain injury. How did he read those cue cards he keeps looking at during the video? The sign at his first canceled flight? How did he manage to call the airline?

  • Thanks for the comments guys and I know that there are alot of Americans out there who love and respect our Vets. I especially appreciate your efforts NotsoSilent. That has to be one of the greatest things I've heard in a long time. You guys just made my day. And as a side note one good organization to donate money to is the USO they're the one's who set up and sponsor all the shows our guys and gals get to see while overseas they do the stuff from rock concerts to comedy shows and believe me there is nothing more appreciated than a good laugh your ass off comedy routine while your in hostile environments.   • I was afraid that at some point we would begin to see a repeat of how we veterans of the Vietnam War were treated and it looks like our young men and women returning home may be starting to see this horrendous treament too. I hope and pray that I'm wrong but with liberals it's too hard to tell.
    One generation of mistreated Veterans in our Country was enough, in fact it was too much. This has to stop!!!! If you see this bullshit going on Please Say Something, stand up for these Vets they did it for you.

    • Welcome home brother, glad you made it. None of this kind of shit happens where I live, we honor the kids coming home today and help them in any way we can. And, like poppajoe49 said above, I would have been in jail if I had seen this young vet and his dog treated in such a shabby fashion.

      • I have worked with many vets, seen guys get pulled from their jobs and sent off for a year, when they come back I try to arrange something at the department to celebrate their homecoming, I also make it a point when I see someone in uniform, I pay for their meal at a restaurant, soda at a stop and rob etc. I also donate to those local drives that send stuff to the boots on the ground. I couldn't serve but doesn't mean I forget these guys and gals and I want to make damn sure those that do serve get a thank you from me. And had I seen the airline worker kick the dog, they would have had to surgically remove my foot from the airline workers ass. That is beyond sick. This gentleman gave his whole future for us by going in harms way, the least we can do is honor him for his service and protect him from pieces of shit like this airline employee. Wish I could find otu the name of the employee.
