Don’t kid yourself, daily newspaper journalism cannot be replaced:

Don’t kid yourself, daily newspaper journalism cannot be replaced: Who is kidding themselves? Daily journalism was replaced a long time ago by the propaganda, creative editing, editorializing and the outright mendacity machine. But if this Pitts fellow is really serious in his belief that We the People cannot possibly do the job that these journolists have failed at then we sincerely hope this modern day Chairman Ludd will drop by the IHTM page on Craigslist. We’ve got a Laser Disc Player, Motorolla DynaTAC 800X, Swatch Watch, a can of Billy Beer and several copies of Peter Frampton’s “I’m in You” on eight track cassette that we’d just love to get rid of.

  • Leonard Pitts is a putz, usually a race-baiter in his column, and hopefully will disappear along with the daily newspaper he writes for.

    • You have the man's number.

What a load of self-congratulatory, bigoted, condescending tripe he wrote this time. In other words, SSDD.

The only reason 'citizen journalists' get traction is because most so-called professional journalists are neither professional, nor journalists. They have abandoned every principle they were taught, while laying claims to ethics they have no comprehension of whatsoever. There is still a need for information, but most people have a visceral understanding of what propaganda is, and how much it is to be valued -- and so they fill their need for information elsewhere.

His "English majors don't know how to sell news for free" bit is absofreaking hilarious:

The old journalism model -- sell your content for a small fee, but have the majority paid for by advertising.

The 'new' journalism model -- sell your content and support yourself with advertising.

I don't see the difference. I suppose he would have been out there in the early days of the automobile, holding strikes at buggy whip factories, trying to force the government to support him to suit his sense of entitlement, incompetence be damned.

In a sense, the decline of mainslime journalism is homeric in proportion -- how can the original providers of information manage to go bankrupt in the 'Information Age'? Only a collection of total imbeciles could blow a f*cking 600 year lead.

      • Nice to see you out and about, sharp clawed as always. Just me or did you take a break for awhile?

        • Yeah, changed gigs, and getting things organized took a while. I now consult/live out of a suitcase. It isn't a bad gig -- the pay's good, and I get to go fishing in all different parts of the country. Hardest part is being away from the family -- so I won't be doing this forever.

    • Unfortunately, Pitts diengenuous gibberish shows up in a few papers, like mine. It was his brand of trash that caused me to cancel my subscription.

    • I use it to clean my windows. Trick I learned while working at a fast food restaurant. Newspapers and coffee filters make great window cleaning wipes.

      • I would think newspapers would be too rough to clean windows. Not to mention the ink would rub off.

        • You think wrong (as usual). Newspaper works great and leaves no streaks. Have you ever done any sort of manual labor? Or do you think that Manuel Labor is the president of a Latin American country?

          • I used to clean our windows with newspaper (and vinegar) before I got too disgusted with the so-called reporting in it and canceled the subscription. I refuse to let the local rag make another penny off my hubby's hard work. Now I use coffee filters. They don't work quite as well in my opinion, but they get the job done.

          • Yep, newspaper is better for cleaning windows... no streaks, no lint left behind, just clean. Coffee filters are used for coffee for this caffiene addict!

          • And don't forget it works great on mirrors too! And glass topped tables. Oh oh, and if steamed up mirrors after a shower are a pet peeve, after cleaning use another couple (dry) sheets with shaving cream just like Windex. No joke, but it has to be the foam kind not gel.

          • There aren't any windows in John's mom's basement, and he doesn't have a car, so cleaning windows isn't within his sphere of experience.

  • Dude! Haven't you heard? You're "just a blogger.". Why did we ever feel bad for Juan Williams?

  • I already don't use newspapers, & fewer people everyday read them. I guess I really only look at them when I'm out of town. The hotel usually has a free local fishwrap that I will look at. Other then that, not so much.

    • When you're out of town, they can be a good way to get a feel for where you are, but with most of them having tripled their cost in the last few years, I'm not going to pay for it.

  • Daily newspapers can't be replaced. Where else would we get cheap birdcage liner and fish wrap?
