We should have expected Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer, a Democrat, to make his presence known on Earth Day. Hell, any time ol’ Earl spots a chance to say something ludicrous about the environment, he jumps at it.
In a pre-Earth Day speech before the Alliance for Community Trees on Wednesday, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) said that more trees lining urban streets makes people better drivers.
“Having an urban tree canopy actually retards speeding,” said Blumenauer.
“The evidence is powerful that people, when they are given a streetscape with street trees, that can–it has an effect,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s calming or it changes the visual impact on them, but it changes driving behavior and makes those communities safer.”
Please bear in mind that we have nothing against trees here at IHateTheMedia.com. In fact, IHTM is headquartered in one of the loveliest tree-lined towns in America.
But Blumenauer is the same Oregon Congressman who proposed a tax on toilet paper to save our precious resources and then jetted off with Nancy Pelosi to save the world at the Copenhagen global warming boondoggle.
So Blumenauer’s the kind of environmentalist who says save energy, then wastes it by jetting off to Copenhagen. The kind of guy who wants to tax toilet paper, but knows he’ll never have to use any because his butt is kept spotless by a non-stop parade of environmentalists who kiss it clean.
Somehow, we figure that if this guy is promoting the importance of trees one day, he’ll propose a tax on leaves the next day.

I'm perusing this site for the first time, and I've seen quite a lot of people making fun of liberal claims based on surface value without actually saying anything regarding their truth.
Does it matter if what he said is true? Sure, it may sound silly... but what if it's true? Would that matter to you?
About 20 seconds of searching led me to an a published scientific study that backs up his claims here: http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all~content=a787370026.
The link is to an abstract, but you can find summarizations of it easily on your own.
So is it still stupid if it's true? If planting more trees along roadsides could actually save lives, is it really that stupid?
Is he also linked to the Brown Stains, er, I mean the Coffee Partiers?
Guy couldn't even buy a decent bike.
Did anyone else hear the story published nationwide yesterday about the deadly fungus spreading across Oregon?
As a native, I can tell you what it is: liberalism.
Please God, send Oregon another Tom McCall!
There is one key word in his speech...."retards"
