All the planet's magnetism is being sucked into the black hole known as Washington DC. It's a side effect of the magnetic field produced when all that money gets sucked into the black hole.

Manmade(don't leave that out) Global De-magnetization? And it's being caused by certain rich people(and a couple of billion kulaks) who are drawing all the magnetization out of the atmosphere by...er...well, somehow, and the only way to stop it is to immediately hand over all of our money to the government. I can see how a pivot to this looming catastrophe might distract some of the media hounds now baying at the heels of our beleaguered young President Narcissus, but not for more than a few minutes.
Magnetic fields have something to do with metal, right? So the only responsible thing to do is use more plastic bottles.
