ESPN refuses to run Christmas ad that mentions God

ESPN refuses to run Christmas ad that mentions God. The sports network said the words “celebrate the birth of Jesus” and “God’s healing” are “problematic.” Okay, fine, ESPN has that right… just like we have the right to stop watching ESPN and stop buying products from ESPN advertisers.

  • Why is ESPN so PC? I'm guessing sports fans lean right. Even Democrat sports fan are more often the union, more socially conservative type. Maybe the NBA is an exception. Remember when they apologized for Brent Musburger last year when he said the Alabama quarterback's girlfriend, Miss Alabama Katherine Webb, is pretty? What? Did they think their huge demographic of radical feminist and lesbian college football fans would be upset? Rush Limbaugh made one provocative comment about Donovan McNabb's skills as a quarterback and he's out the door. But Olbermann and Ray Lewis are okay? Lewis was a great defensive football player, but goodness it sickens me how ESPN makes him into a demi-god after what he's been involved with.

    • Not only them but also the Catholic hospital. They created a new commercial without reference to G-d nor Jesus that was accepted by ESPN. So ESPN had no problem to the charity it was just the religious mentions. They had NO PROBLEM receiving the cash just as long as it didnt have a mention of Christ. So the Catholic hospital sadly are just as spineless.

    • Interesting. Here's what I think: I think this IHTM post and my subtle hint that a boycott of ESPN and its advertisers might be in order tipped the scales. Yep, that's what did it.

      I am feeling the power.

    • Yea, they even sent O'Reilly a letter telling him that, while he was on air, so he would stop hammering them.

  • I bet the communist turds at ESPN would be the first to jump on the Kwanza holiday bandwagon. The whole bunch of them should be gift wrapped, and promptly set on fire.

  • Last year they took out G-d from the Pledge of Alliance from a commercial or something. I don't watch ESPN. This is another reason why.

  • That's OK, when God runs His Christmas ad, he won't mention ESPN...

Seriously, when did the media start pretending that the fact that they RUN a paid ad means they AGREE with it? If ESPN runs an ad saying GM MAKES THE BEST DAMN CARS IN THE UNIVERSE can we assume that ESPN is on board with that and none of them drive Fords? Or is that "problematic" also?

    • LOL

True... On Twitter many people state that RT and MT are not endorsements per se of the statement. Many times when there are informercials the station puts up a sign that the informercial is not an endorsement by the station.

So if the people have the money and are willing to stay within time frames etc, not sure what is the problem here... The same with the gun rights people who were turned down by Super Bowl... True they have the right to not put it up but seriously celebrating the birth of Jesus... oooohhh that is so controversial and crazy!!! Really?
