Following a 3-yr investigation, EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration. Producers of bottled water will face 2 yr jail sentence for defying the edict. Now, about that ridiculous claim eating food can cure hunger… Folks, these are the nitwits Barack Obama and Visa Pelosi want us to emulate. BTW, rules banning bent bananas and curved cucumbers were scrapped in 2008. Ban terminal stupidity and the entire EU bureaucracy will disappear.

Prof Brian Ratcliffe, spokesman for the Nutrition Society, said dehydration was usually caused by a clinical condition and that one could remain adequately hydrated without drinking water.
Methinks the good Professor is an idiot. A college educated idiot, but an idiot nonetheless.
Boy, try to research this story and it's all over the righty blogosphere, with the same tired quotes from the conservative guy. Anyone who thinks this is silly should read the study they did. They don't say that water isn't necessary. They simply ban bottlers from making the claim that their product will prevent dehydration, because that's not a reliable claim. This is also good for the planet. What are you concerned about? Phony "pure water" companies making less money?
BTW, "good for the planet" is about an empty a statement as any fool could come up with...
I just took a dump. That's good for the planet. I just put my cat out so he can crap in the neighbors' yard. *That's* good for the planet, too. I just turned a light off. That's good for the planet. I turned the light back on, so my seedlings would start. That's good for the planet, too. I turned the water off. That's good for the planet. I just turned the water back on. That's good for the planet, too.
People that say crap like "good for the planet" have a certain meaning they want to get across. What really comes across loud and clear is that they've bought someone's sales pitch, hook, line, and sinker, and they've allowed themselves to become another unpaid shill for the totalitarian state. Think about it -- the idiots pushing this ecology crap would be a lot more believable if they weren't placing multi-billion dollar side bets on it in the stock market.
Personally, I think 99% means the OWS crowd believes 99% of the crap they're told, and regurgitate it mindlessly.
Linda, Linda, Linda.
First off, you won't hear anything about this story in the lefty blogosphere, as they don't see it as embarrassing. Most of us know that dehydration is a medical condition -- and that you have to cure that first. The problem is, if you say that "water isn't going to cure dehydration", you're going to sound like an idiot.
WTH are you supposed to *rehydrate* with? Tequila? (LIGHT BULB!!!! I Just Had Me An Idea. I think I need to apply for a grant. 10 years ought to be enough time to research it...)
The EU sounds just stupid enough that they ought to fall for it. Therein lies the problem, Linda, and like most zealots, you are so lacking in humor that you don't "get" it. You don't mind if we mock you for a bit, do you?
Dehydration isn't always a clinical condition. Sometimes it is caused by a lack of water intake. In which case, I'd say drink some water. If the dehydration IS a symptom of a medical condition, by all means, treat the condition. But treat the symptom also, by getting some water into the person.
Aren't these the same idiots who run NATO and the UN?
Great, now I can drink beer all the time, for hydration purposes only of course.
My hypothesis is that there's too much of that unhelpful water in beer. Want to help with my study on whether or not tequila can cure dehydration, since water cannot?
Control Group 'Linda Snodgrass' drinks water.
Study group 'GhostntheMachine' will drink copious amounts of beer.
Study group 'perlcat' will drink tequila, and tabulate results.
Nope, uhn-uh, no way, you win. As long as I can share a couple ounces or three of a nice tequila on the rocks with a skinny slice of lime while we await the final results. Just think, that batch that just went in the barrel will almost be ready 10 years from now when we release our final report.
And then people laugh at us for the warnings on coffee cups that say the coffee may be hot.
Mmmm......coffee. The bacon of beverages.
More truth from the ministry of truth . Chocolate rations have risen from 6 onces to 4 onces.
Double plus good !!!!!
Pitt. I think you are both right and wrong. Wrong about the story being phony but right about the stupidity and a 10 year study. The EU recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, so obviously they started this study immediately after the EU was formed.
This story is phony. Real Euro-bureaucrats could not possibly complete a study of such mind-numbing stupidity in fewer than ten years.
Yeah, everybody knows real bureaucrats work in multiples of 5 years, like the USSR - they had about 14 different 5-year plans to fix their economy, which they "fixed" right into the ground. Success!
Thats true, Russians don't take a dump without a plan.
That's because they had to make sure they had asswipe. Toilet paper was'nt always in supply back in the day in the USSR.
Breathing wards off suffocation too.
Maybe, maybe not. But it DOES produce CO2, & that is pollution. At least in the eyes of 5 idiots on the Supreme Court.
Brought to you by the same idiots that believe in global warming.
