Perhaps she can sign on as nanny Bloomturds "Soda Czar" and patrol the streets of New York looking for anything bigger than 16 ounces...She could sneak up on restaurants looking for transfats, and knock the salt shaker out of little old ladies hands.

It seems to me that her concern over fat may stem from the huge chunk of plaque and cholesterol that broke loose inside her arteries and clogged the main blood flow going to her brain.
If the past few decades have taught me anything, when I'm on a plane, the fat kid isn't worrying me nearly as much as the guy with a towel on his head. Call me backwards, but when I think of threats to our country, Twinkies and cheese fries aren't even close to the top of my list.

Actually she isn't THAT big. Granted, she is no anorexic, but if she were and lsot to 100 lbs, she would still be big. She is tall and broad shouldered, and as an African American she will likely always hve some junk in the trunk. I get that. She will never be a size 6. I just wish she would shut the hell up about telling me what I should eat. Provide information? yes. Improve school lunches (starting this year) excellent. They get some real food now instead of frozen burritos and applesauce. But for the adults, offer information, contacts for more , recipes that are tasty and balanced, and leave the rest of us. Some will listen, some won't. Get over it!
You are not getting the sarcasm here are you rose. And, you are not getting the point. The federal gooberment has no right to tell LOCAL school districts what to feed the kids, it should be up to the PARENTS who send their kids to those schools.
I very rarely got a school lunch because my mother didn't like what was served to the kids, she packed a lunch for all us boys every day. But now even that is becoming "illegal" because some little limp dick at the school can say that the lunch packed by mom does not meet "nutritional standards". According to who? What is wrong with a P&J sammich, a banana, chips and a Twinkie for desert? It didn't hurt anyone I know and it was a hell of a lot better than the pre-processed crap the school cafeteria put out.
the feds will tie food reqs to federal funds.. that's where the "rights" come in. I know some states (TX recently?) have refused some quantity of fed funds so they might be free of it
As much as Perry struts around and claims to be anti big government, I am not aware of anytime we have refused money from Washington. We foldedd under the speed limit debate, and we fold over nearly everything Washington threatens. With no income tax, we have crippling property taxes and will pretty much take money where its offered,
i thought there was a flap over stimulus funds.. At first there were additional fed funds accepted, earmarked for education, and then TX shifted out its state funds and spent them elsewhere. So the next batch of fed funds that was offered had stipulations to prevent that, and Perry refused

God knows we never got anything for Education (silly rabbit!) whethered not offered or not accepted. The stimulus funds has some strings attached, so Perry )who was running as a Presidential candidate at the time) refused the funds. I think later they arranged some back room deal where we got some, if not all the refused funds.
I understand your point. But lets face it. Most parents aren't looking at what the school offers. In many schools, the breakfast and lunch provide most of their food for the day. Since WE as taxpayers are paying for that food, I want the money used wisely and to serve my kid something better than a 5 insh cinnamon roll, chocolate mildk and a juice drink. No wonder the kids are bouncing off the walls 2 hours later. They're starving! Mom probably made you a decnt breakfast too, but that's not happening either. Hunfgry children cannnot learn. And God knows, there needs to be an optimum environment for them to try and learn in todays public schools, since the teachers aren't doing much with this same population. Sorry, as a nurse, I feel teaching and providing adequate inexpensive nutritional food is key to grwoing a generation with some brains.
As a FLOTUS, she should be sticking to "fluff" topics -- because she does NOT HAVE A JOB. Her husband does. Much like a pastor's wife, while she has visibility, it takes an astute mind to know the limits of her behavior.
The problem is that she's an egotistical fool, and doesn't understand that at all.
All FLOTUS have a "project the espouse while their husband is in office. Nancy Reagan had the just say no routine, Laura Bush had the reading initiatives. HIllary was President, so she didn't really have time for a personal cause. But you get the idea. Its the approach Mrs. Obama is using that frustrates people, in addition to the fact that they don't like her husband.
