Ford Drive One “Press Conference: Chris” Commerical. No government bailout, not union owned, no bondholders got screwed. A good reason to buy one. Ford does not stand for fix or refinance daily like some other car manufacturers.

My F-350 did a fine job of hauling me, my lady, and Vlad the rocking unicorn to an event yesterday. Now my feet are killing me, but I had a lot of fun.

As I said i have enjoyed my Ford trucks and for the record they also build fords in Canada to be sold here in the US. The ford truck I have now was assembled in Canada. They could always build for foreign markets here and apply the shipping cost to the price of the car and the extra manufacturing jobs would give a nice but small jolt to the economy as well as create more jobs.
No difference in this than when Honda and Toyota build plants here. It keeps costs down for Ford and ships the profits back home.
If they were building cars in India and shipping them back here, it would be a different story.
I hear what you are saying, barny. Problem is tack on higher labor costs to the transport expenses and you have a very uncompetitively priced car in India. Ford will compete against brands like Tata that build tiny cheap econoboxes. They must build in the local market to make money.
Ford is there to make a profit. Not to create jobs for the American worker. Now I really really hope those two goals will often overlap. But when they don't I fully support Ford's prerogative to do what is best for their company. Otherwise they will eventually fail and someone in government will be looking to take even more money from the tax payers to fund the resultant bail out.
Extremely well said, Kip. Still, I would very disappointed if they were building cars in India to ship back here on Liberian-flagged car carriers.
Also, LA (below) raises the other very interesting point that a number of "Japanese" cars are actually native-born American cars now. Also a lot of Mercedes & BMWs.
I used to work on the car carrier ships, and this was funny as hell -- in Brunswick, Ga., we would pick up a shipload of those "German" cars and take them to Germany! Then we would load up again with other models there, and bring them back to the States!
Very true. There are a lot of "foreign" cars being built in right to work states.
The Honda plants in Ohio have never been unionized despite the best efforts of the UAW. The exceptions to the rule regarding site location.
I loved it when I had my Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycle, and the Harley guys would give me a bad time about Japanese bikes. I pointed to the lower edge of the left side of the cylinder. "Made in Nebraska." Hmmm, let's take a look at where your forks were made, or your brakes. Just as many foreign parts on a Harley as there are anywhere else.
No more Gubbermint Motors or CRYsler cars for me. Luckily, they don't make such good stuff so I won't be missing anything.
I have enjoyed my ford trucks but that will come to end on my next purchase due to them now saying they are building a new factory and creating 5000 jobs in India. They are now just as bad as GM building a new factory in China and Chrysler building a transmission factory in Mexico. The only difference is Ford is not using stimulus money to do this but they are still insulting Americans by doing this when we need the jobs here.
What? You do realize that there are McDonald's all over the world right? That they have products that are uniquely for the market in which they are. They (Ford) are EXPANDING their business elsewhere, they are not ELIMINATING (as far as I know) jobs here. A MCD's employee here is not affected by a MCD's employee in India. They both have their jobs. What are you talking about? Are they closing plants here or something? Toyota has build factories and what not here in the US, but they are a Japanese company. They EXPANDED their business into the US and creating jobs for US people... what they shouldn't have done that?
The plant Ford is building in India will be making their product for booming market in India. It is not the same as shipping American jobs to Mexico at all. Would you insist that Ford close their existing factories in Australia and England as well? None of those products are for American consumers.
Barny you get a thumbs down for that. You should ask Boeing about building a plant in the USA before you criticize Ford.
This is first time I saw this. I applaud Ford's guts in running the commercial. I have a '99 F-150 and am looking to try to buy a new F250 next year. I will only buy Ford because it is standing on its own two feet, not leaning on us taxpayers.
They support the taxpayers by not accepting government dole. They rely on us to support them by buying their cars and trucks.
I have had occasion to buy new from GM as well as Ford. In my new auto purchases, quality was a crap shoot and half were good while the other half were junk, no matter which company. The eighties were the worst years for American car and truck quality. The 90s saw improvement.
However, I will never support GM in any way ever again. Since my ability to buy new has been stumped I've stuck with my always reliable Ford trucks, used as they are, they still work fine. When my position improves I'll definitely look at Ford again for new conveyance.
