France may extend TV licence fee to computer screens: We were a bit curious as to why France didn’t seek to increase revenues by taxing soap. But as a frequent commenter here at IHTM recently revealed to us . . . the country remains largely unfamiliar with this item.

125 Euros a year to own a TV. That money is used to finance public TV and radio. Just think if we could do that here, Air America could make a comeback! Brilliant, make em pay for shi**y programming, Socialism works, don't it?
France should impose a body hair tax on all its citizens. Deficit solved in France.
Or a penalty on those who DO NOT purchase deodorant. But call it a tax.

It's not a tax... It's a penalty under the tax code.

Yeah, when I moved to Germany I could no believe all the things they tax you for.
TV, radio, dog (the bigger the dog, the bigger the tax) church tax (but only for Catholics and Protestants, and then only if you register as such)
Every one has to pay a chimney sweep to come around once a year, and those guys love to collect from those of us who have NO DAMN FIREPLACE.
(okay, not a tax, but still)
And those are just a few, since my lady is a German/American and has lived here almost all her life, she deals with all that stuff.
Better that way, I would blow a gasket if I knew all the other taxes and fees I pay.
