Some guy gave me a free case of fluorescent bulbs about 5 years ago. I still have them. The only place I use them is in the hall ceiling lights because they don't get hot. The light sucks. I would not buy one.
Don't use them outdoors or in an unheated garage if you live in the great frozen wasteland. They take several minutes to light up. I turn the porch light on, let the dog out, he romps and does his business, comes back in, I turn the light off and it still hasn't reached any definition of brightness.
But I guess I wouldn't be able to get my electrons very excited in minus 40 degree weather, either.

We sort of skipped over spring and went directly to summer. Mon and Tues were record breakers, high of 99, only cooled off to the mid 70's at night. A dry line came through, so we are back to a more seasonal 70 right now!
You obviously never touched the white ceramic base, where the ballast is, when the thing has been on for a while.
Yes but they don't heat up the glass. These have black trim on the glass covers that is like decals and regular bulbs were burning it off.
I'm looking at buying some soon, in a kit with sockets that hold four of them each, with softboxes and light stands. They're great for video work, if you get the right bulbs to balance with sunlight.

The elimination of incandescent illumination, signed by George W. Bush in 2007 was a product of the democrat congress as part of the Clean Energy Act. I feel compelled to include all those bastards that have worked toward the demise of this nation. The list includes all the Bush bastards, not just the democrat bastards.
