All these governors are just following Quagmire's Stasi lead. How dare anyone ask them an unscripted question.
You know if anyone asked Obama a different question than the one that they told his handlers they would ask, he would answer the pre-approved one!
ie: they told him they would ask about Obamacare and then........

I can understand that he is protecting the Governor, however, he didn't need to go the there is a law route, because there isn't. All he had to do was be professional and tell the truth: The Governor doesn't know who you are, I would rather you not approach in case you have any weapons, if you have any questions for the Governor please call or contact at the office or go through the media office.
That is all he had to do. It is not that difficult.

Honestly, I knew a guy that was the Governor's aide in another state. It was the top cushy job in the State Police. If he wants to keep that prestigious job, he has to do whatever he's told. He could have been less of a dick about it, but he is charged with protecting the governor.
Having lived in Oregon for a number of years, I can state with some assurance that they have the same problem as CA, NY,WA, and a few other states.
The rural areas are strongly conservative, they are just outnumbered by the urban dwellers on election day .

This is right out of the quagmire play book. Harass the press that is calling attention to the things that you are doing wrong. The state trooper is working at gaining political favor, in other words he is an ass kisser looking to suck his way up on the ladder. Notice who gave the order to block the reporter from the governor. Most likely the girlfriend. The governor did not have the balls to exit the SUV until the trooper had positioned himself between the reporter and the handlers.
On more than one occasion I've had the misfortune of having to interact with some just like this guy with in the KSP.
I don't know about Oregon, but in this commonwealth it is with in our prerogative to ask if you are carrying concealed as this is a carry concealed state. I always ask if someone is carrying concealed when there is an interaction. It protects both of us.

That's scary. I mean really scary. I would concede at least, that I think a cop would be within bounds to ask if someone is carrying a firearm, especially in close proximity to a government official, but yeah, the whole flavor there was very disturbing.
