Global warming debate? Bill Nye, the Psuedo-Science Guy versus AccuWeather’s Joe Bastardi

Bill Nye chose an interesting time to get involved in the global warming debate–just as the whole scam began falling apart.

We’re just not sure if we should give OReilly kudos for being even-handed or give him hell for being even-handed.

  • Did you people watch the same clip I did? On one side, there was a meteorologist with no background in climate research (yes, there is a difference between meteorology and climate research. Climate is concerned with long term trends, meteorology with short term predictions.) and apparently no knowledge of statistical analysis trying to disprove over 20 years of climate research. On the other side, there was Bill Nye, who presented a rational, scientifically sound theory, backed by a large body of data, based on the *very* simple concept that if you increase the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, more heat gets trapped. Shocking concept, I know. And Bill was right, look at Venus if you want empirical evidence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus

For any of the unsubstantiated claims that you will undoubtedly start spewing in response to this post, please visit here to find my response: http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php . I realize that this will, in all likelihood, be dismissed out of hand, as you clearly value your conspiratorial beliefs that science is trying to blind you from the truth more than actually finding that truth. However, I want to post it anyway in the hope that you might give logic and reason a chance.

  • While I do not believe in so called "Man made Global Warming", I so have to say... the Fox News show was VERY biased. They made Bill Nye use Cardboard graphs, while Joe got powerpoint complete with markings. Even it up...

    • Ben, if Nye comes to the show unprepared it is his fault. I work in the "lamestream" media and guests are expected to prepare themselves for the interview. If you want to talk about bias, there is no such thing as a totally unbiased newscast, it has to do with the mass communication model itself, which always introduces bias starting with gatekeeping. I think most viewers of O'Reilly would understand it is an opinion show, and that O'Reilly is center-right on most issues.
