It seems to us that after the apocalypse the man that can build fire will be king. That man will, no doubt, be the proud owner of a Chevy Volt.

They must be all gay or seriously lonely. No kids, no wives just them? This commercial is incredibly stupid.
You know the part that everyone overlooks in this whole auto "screw America-Were too big to fail thing" is that GM just didn't pay about 40 billion to suppliers and let many of them fail..Ford meanwhile "borrowed 23 billion" to avoid getting a handout. Now who has got the advantage in that deal? Just another reason to NEVER buy anything from GM again. GM is playing by Obungles rules, not on a level playing field either.
Crony capitalism is as crony capitalism does.
Or seriously selfish. The one guy brought his dog.
For real. The rest of their lives after a world wide destruction with just each other will get boring real quick. The commercial makes absolutely no sense. If it had featured families being saved with considerable supplies and things being hauled by the trucks I would have been impressed. As it is, a box of twinkies and gay or selfish men driving a truck is not going to propel me to buy a new truck from them.
Actually Twinkies do have an expiration date. Shouldn't they be eating cockroaches? And instead of asking for Dave, shouldn't they be looking for someone to mate with? Oops, never mind, it's GM; my bad.
Yeah, Dave didn't make it 'cause he drove a Ford. This from the company that would now be emerging from bankruptcy as a Hyundai subsidiary if it weren't for the gubbermint breaking decades of legal precedent to keep their sorry asses afloat. And they're poking fun at the ONE damn auto company that survived on their own without a bailout from Uncle Sap. That's a hot one. Fuck you, GM.
Double plus thumbs up.
I got to drive one of those as a rent a car, a gas guzzling piece of crap that made so much noise while I was driving it down the road I thought one of the windows were open.
It's about as lame as their Volt ad… "Buy it because it's good for the country."
The Clint Eastwood ad for Chrysler was right on compared to this piece of dreck.
Agreed.
Speaking of the Eastwood commercial, I got to thinking about Detroilet. Right there you have the liberal/progressives/ democrats/whatevers Utopia that they have been craving. Liberals and unions have been running Detroilet for years so the result must be the Utopia the loons er liberals are clamoring for.
On the other hand, Texas is a big redneck, conservative, tea bagger state. Yet everyone, especially including liberals are fleeing Detroilet while flocking to Texas. I am puzzled that since the environment that all these liberals are demanding politicians create already exists, whyinell dont they all move there and enjoy. There's room. I hope these people aren't stupid enough to think that liberal politicians and unions will create anything else while they are in control.
I definitely second KQ on those sentiments Navyvet!
I have a 59 Apache Fleetside that is on it's 4th motor and 2nd transmission. Probably about 200k miles but the only reason it is still on the road is because I can work on it. Having said that putting the distributor at the rear and needing heat shields for the plug wires is terrible engineering from Gov Mtr.
I. Will. Never. Buy. A. New. Government. Motors. Vehicle!
My last Government Motors vehicle was a '70 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. Sold it about 12 years ago to a guy who restored it and is still enjoying driving it around Yucca Valley, CA. Cool truck. Buy a new one? Not in my wildest dreams.
I've had occasion to purchase three brand spanky new GMs. All Pontiacs, one was a 93 grand prix of crap. The first was an 82 Firebird cage liner that was a pretty car. However, the best new car I'd ever bought was indeed a 1991 Firebird. Little V8, 5 speed stick. 15 MPG city with lots of stops and 30 MPG @ 80 miles per hour sustained highway. That's right, 80 miles per hour getting 30 miles to the gallon. Let me say that another way; 30 MPG at 80 MPH. Spooling 2,000 rpm in 5th, engine purring, 80 miles per hour. 30 freaking miles per freaking gallon.
I drove that car 105,000 miles without ever requiring even the slightest tune up, before they 'reformulated' the 94 octane juice to that Meth-tert-but-ether crap that melted my spark plugs as soon as I tanked up! Consequently my mileage went down 25% along with the formerly surprisingly remarkable performance for a throttle body injected baby 8. But as Carol Browner said when she forced us to use that punk piss, it reduced the VOC released by 10% per gallon!
At 186,000 miles I bent some important internal components that must be straight in order to run. I replaced the engine with a rebuilt. When I dropped the trans and took the clutch apart there was a layer of disk material left that was shiny like old mylar recording tape which promptly disintegrated as I gazed at it, realizing I got 186,000 miles on the clutch with never any hitch. I probably had two, maybe three shifts left on that before the unit woulda melded! Delicious.
I did have a 69 Firebird way back in 78 or so. Twas a beauty. I also picked up another 91 that was identical to this one I've raved on other than this used one had T-tops and automatic 5 speed. It was a fine specimen as well but not like the stick.
No other GM vehicles and so it shall remain, unless I stumble into a wad of cash and another 91 F'bird at the same time, just cuz I really loved that ride.

My last GMC was an 88 1/2 ton pickup. In 188k miles it was on it's 4th transmission, 3rd rear diifferential, ready for its 2nd set of valve stem seals. Worst of all was the brakes went out. The dealer had it for a couple of months and couldn't figure out how to get them to work. They even sent an engineer up from LA who couldn't figure it out. I finally talked them into trying a 3/4 ton master cylinder, which got them working again.
My current Land Rover Discovery just turned 316,000 miles. Has original transmission, front differential and engine. The engine has had 2 valve jobs but the bottom end is orig. it's on clutch #3. The rear diff was replaced by me at about 150k as I put an ARB air locker in. I did put in a transfer case at about 275k.
And Land Rovers are supposed to be unreliable.
Is that the one with the fiberglass sides on the box? If so my buddy had on in high school. That's a cool truck and a collectors item, That's when a chevy was actually worth something
The headline should be "2012 Obama Apocalypse"
