GREEN FAIL: NEW YORK GIVES UP ON HYBRID BUSES

GREEN FAIL: NEW YORK GIVES UP ON HYBRID BUSES. Bloomberg is hoping they don’t burn old trans fat french fry oil. It could make the buses obese and even clog up their fuel lines.

  • Another Bloomturd fail.....All those nasty ass batteries sitting around killing the environment, perhaps they can use the buses to store confiscated sparklers, 32 ounce soda cups, salt shakers and transfat containers......

    • @Not so. Way off topic, but with what you do and where you live maybe you can help me see something I'm missing. Anybody more familiar with the whole debate and the mechanics of how to make it work, even one of the thousands of lofters out there, here's your chance to finally chime in and show your stuff.

But do we really need 20,000 additional Border Patrol agents to get the job done with all the other tech they're talking about using? Are they all guards on does that include 10,000 new paper-pusher jobs too. 20,000 sounds an awful lot like overkill to me, am I overlooking something?

      • If we finish an actual secure fence, they could probably add a a thousand more or so, I heard some commercial about adding 20,000 more to the border patrol, I think that might be overkill if they build a fence, then again if they don't finish the damn fence we could use 60,000 more just to keep out the illegals.

Plus the fact, where are you gonna get 20,000 people at once who have criminal free backgrounds and want the job. The Border patrol has a terrible job and they get paid crappy wages....Trust me I have been thru several hiring binges at police departments, we loose a lot in the background since they have records, and we loose a lot more in training since they can not handle the job..To get 20,000 you would need at least 250,000 applicants with clean backgrounds..That would be tough cause your competing with police/sheriff/highway patrol/state police that pay way better wages and you don't have to live near the border.

        • It's the government. They need 200 extra people to watch the border, and 19,800 people to manage them and do paper work. Of course, 200 people will not even put a dent in the actual security of the border, but those 19,800 people will have nice, cushy union jobs, and will vote democrap.

      • They need thousands just to pass out the "How to Apply for Welfare" flyers, and make sure all the illegals are fed well.

  • Oh I'm getting the biggest chuckle right now. I'm thinking instead of the Clean Air Bus Company, New York should go back to the Fresh Air Cab Company.

(That's a ref to the old Amos & Andy show.)

  • As an almost 25 year auto industry manager and executive, I can tell you all with certainty that hybrids are the *greatest* gimmick foisted on the car-buying public since landau roofs, tailfins, or maybe the GM 8-6-4 motor. The perfect answer to a question that was never asked.

True anecdote: my previous company car was a V8 hybrid and my current car is a six-cylinder diesel. The diesel gets over 700 miles in range compared to 500 in the hybrid and has all the passing power and acceleration you would ever want. It is also $15K less expensive than the hybrid with basically the same option content. There is no case to be made for a hybrid. None. Diesels are reliable and you never have to worry about a second electric motor and the massive cost of battery replacements or disposal.

  • Another greenie bites the dust. Too bad it was the tax payers of NYC that footed this bill and watched their money wasted. Oh well, nannyberg will just raise the fat tax or the soda tax or maybe the popcorn tax to recoup the money.

NYC is just one of the classic examples of what happens when one party runs the show forever, kind of like Detroit.

    • Too bad it was the tax payers of NYC that footed this bill and watched their money wasted.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. If they weren't happy, they could have voted with their feet and moved to PA like everyone else.
