Since we are talking about books I highly recomend A Parliament of Whores by P. J. O'Rourke. Or any of his books for that matter. He is funnier than Ann Coulter and much more insightful.

Given the events that have been happening lately I thought this quote from Orwell fits.

Darkness is not a problem with today's technology. Only God has truly that power (natural). The only way for government to have that power will definitely be unnatural/through technology. So, government once again trying to convert itself into a god or into God and that is just scary and infuriating. God has proven that even though He has that power, it is not abused and it is not used for our harm, just for the necessity to control us. All in all as created creatures we still have a choice to behave as we like even though God does have the power to watch (and ultimately control if He likes) every single human being. The thing with humans having that power (through artificial means) is scary, because as humans we know that OTHER humans are fallible, weak, greedy, with great potential for evil, etc. We recognize that in ourselves and we do in others. We cannot put our complete trust in MAN to use all of our information and the ability to control our lives for our good. We just cannot. It is not normal. That kind of power DOES corrupt and corrupts completely because as human beings we do not have the ability to control the power and not let it control us. We are not gods, no matter what anyone says. We need to know our place and those in government and in position of leadership MUCH more need to be put in their place.

I think this is the point Orwell was trying to make. Too many today have turned from God is great to Government is great. No longer do most think God's word is good and we can do no real harm if we follow His teachings. Now, people think Government's word is good without understanding that following government's teachings is taking them down the path to total domination.
People in general are down the path of slavery. They don't realize that their desire to not have a Perfect Person who is Divine and so on govern over us is making them walk down the path of slavery to other human beings and their institutions. It is a terrible thing.
Animal Farm and 1984 were both required reading , when I was in school . Both books are only slightly hatred more , by the Bible , by those that love to hate .

I loved Animal Farm it was fantastic and the story/history behind it is really good commentary on that situation and of course it helps us know about these types of government in very simple terms. 1984 was good but not AS good as Animal Farm IMHO. It wasn't ALL of that, but it did create the famous dystopian genre that many people like nowadays (Hunger Games for example). I am not into Hunger Games. Nor other stories like that. I am not into dystopian genre so maybe that is why I don't particular care for 1984. However I am into allegorical genre perhaps why I prefer Animal Farm better. However I will give 1984 its props. N8.

So everything he wrote was ipso facto based on nothing that previously happened... which is prima facie evidence that George Orwell doesn't even exist.
