As has been noted on the interwebs it takes a lot of hubris to pass yourself off as a populist deriding corporate influence and greed when a company -bailed out with taxpayer looted funds- has just handed you the most expensive campaign commercial in the history of the universe.

Just shows you that someone (Eastwood) can spend a lifetime building a reputation and then simply throw it away when you decide to throw away your principles to stooge for a politician who is just using you for his own political purposes.

I'd like to think that Clint was none the wiser. But anyone that thinks they're going to get away will pulling one over on the man is in for a sad surprise. Before Chuck Norris goes to bed he wears Clint Eastwood pajamas.
It is quite possible that he didn't know this was the intention of the commercial IF it was the intention of the commercial/the corporation. I have no reason to not believe that it was, but I do want to believe that Eastwood was thinking about Detroit and the US getting out of the crap we are in, not necessarily an endorsement of Obamaeconomics. I could be wrong, but I think that someone was not looking out for Eastwood. Since Eminem lives in Michigan, it made sense that he would promote the car company and he really said nothing other than just appear on the commercial. The problem here was Eastwood's discourse and how much double meaning it had, which was indeed unfortunate for him. I hope he wasn't played, or else if he was played I hope that he is careful next time.
He wasn't played. He was PAID! Hollywoodie taking big bucks. If he had done this ad for Ford I wouldn't really take offense, but I'm offended. I've always liked his work. He's not a real pro gunner, like many people think. He tends not to let too much about his politics show through, stays in the shadows for the most part, but he was all for the Brady Act, which I take as a major flaw. He has said that bans won't work because there is no way to actually succeed in so doing. If it were possible to successfully conduct such a ban, would he back that? Will we ever know? Should we care? Chrysler and GM ought to sink like they boulders they are, rather than floating on the union life rafts filled with taxpayer blood, sweat and money.
BTW, the commercial is pretty damn good.
