Happy Solstice!: Christians cry conspiracy as atheists win right to replace park nativity scenes with anti-God posters. Looks like those who don’t proselytize are again trying to ram their non-religion religion down our throats. Funny you never see them doing this at the Vatican.

They realize that the Solstice is a Pagan tradition right? By saying that its the Solstice you are abiding by the Pagans traditions. And if Atheists goals are to disprove God, they picked a really poor choice of words. Pagans have a god for nearly everything, and the Solstice time is just another, "Thank you God's" celebration. In short, that Atheist fail's on that one.
I dunno.. thats kinda like saying observance of Sunrise is a pagan or otherwise spiritual tradition.. Maybe it became so, eventually, but in reality its just a phenomenon of celestial mechanics and geometry (in the case of the 2 Solstices--Lotar, non-militant atheist neolithic hunter, astronomer & farmer, and all around good guy--might have found utility in tracking a succession of Sunrises.. until invading Druids split his belly open with a blade of iron & bone for his lack of spiritual observances)

To realize the Judeo Chirstian foundation of that term would require knowing something about JudeoChristian tenets,scripture and traditions. Peopl use paraphrased quotes from the Bible every day, but are too ignorant to realize their source.

Get used to hearing from the atheists as I hope and really believe that Christianity, as well as other religions, will be dead in this country by the end of the century. There is just no factual basis for any of them as denoted in the statement by President Jefferson. For example: if the Bible were true, we wouldn't have the president we do. Knowledge is too available for these enslavers of intellect called "religions" to continue.
Then, maybe future Republicans will do the things we really need them to do - like downsize government - instead of keep their lips on the collective ass of the Religious Right.
Don't worry, Christmas will continue as a holiday. There just won't be any religious connotation. It will go almost full circle to its pagan origins.

It would have been better if I hadn't seen anything worth replying to. That would assume that people read the article, noticed the constitutionally fair lottery system, noted the exercise of the First Amendment, and went, "Meh, no news here." Instead we get to see a lot of people bitched about the displays, thus showing their lack of integrity.

I'm not sure why you guys are upset about Atheists going after christians for the most part. After all I don't remember the last time a christian beheaded someone or suicide bombed a building.

Well if you live in Saudi Arabia then I can understand the fear of islam. However, muslims commit less crime than Christians (percentage wise).

Oh, no, John... I think that moslems acting in a fundamental way according to the tenets I've read in the Koran are quite content to call themselves faithful. There are no Christian directives to do violence to others in the Bible.
Atheism is the conceit to believe that while God does not exist His infinite power to prove a negative not only does but resides in the individual holding to that opinion. It is an act of faith which requires as much fervor as any religion excepting in this case that faith is not in a supreme being but rather the infallibility of the intellect of some men.
Note that atheism and agnosticism are not the same thing.

In today's news, there are a number of stories following the same template: "(insert name of atheist group) wants (insert name of town) to remove (nativity/menorah/cross) from (insert name of property) because the atheist feels threatened." One of the common threads is that the "group" received a "complaint" from "one of its members" in the "town" yet not once do they identify the "complainant." Hmmmmm. . .
I think it is time to live up to the expectations of the Libera...communists.

Paden, maybe I don't really qualify as an athiest. I don't claim to KNOW that there's no God, I just believe that there's no God. I don't KNOW anything any more than anybody that's religious. So I guess I'm just agnostic, leaning towards atheist. But I insult Islam on a daily basis, to anyone that will listen, and a few people that won't.
I'll do it again right now. Islam must be removed from the face of the earth. It is evil, and the only thing wrong with the Crusades was that they didn't finish the job.
When Atheist's say that they know there is no God, it's more apt to them making a reference to the fact of how many religious people say they Know there is a God. Nobody really knows but its a fight about what word means what to who.
