  • This is just politics. Is it fun, sure, but it's still just politics.

    There are plenty of reasons why O should not get reelected. If he was born in another country, that's what you call icing on the cake. Honestly he could be from Omicron Persei 8, and the media would ask "does that make him even greater?"

    Stick to the issues and Romney wins. Is a Romney victory something to get excited about? No. But the inept Republican party has dictated it's his turn to be president. To bad the Tea Party had jobs to go to and couldn't be active 24/7.

    'Bout time. I also think there's an interesting question still about as to whether he may have held dual citizenship as a subject of the UK. Specifically, how he made that trip to Pakistan at a time when holders of US passports were prohibited from travel there. Did he just violate the law, or did he actually travel there legally with a passport from elsewhere?

  • At the end of the day, this all makes no difference. The Constitution requires a president to be a "natural born citizen" and that has been legally defined as one who is born to an American citizen even if on foreign soil. Obama's mother was a US citizen, so it wouldn't matter if Obama was born in Kenya or not. If his mother was a US citizen when he was born, he is a "natural born citizen" based on the letter of the law. There are plenty of other topics to hammer the Obama campaign with, so perhaps it's time to move on to those instead of rehashing this same tired topic before it alienates the moderate voters and guarantees another 4 years of this idiot.

    • I gave you a thumbs up. Wether or not the first part of your post is correct (and let's face it, the arguement will never be resolved to everyone's satisfaction one way or another). The later part of your post is 100% spot on. If we wish to remove him from office, we need to pick our battles wisely and unless someone comes up with incontrovertible evidence (unlikely) that he was'nt born here we as conservatives pursue this at our own peril.

      • The only reason the question won't ever be answered in a way that satisfies me, is that Obama either can't, or won't do one of two things. Either a) admit he wasn't born in Hawaii, or b) produce the original document, with no changes made.

        That said, it would be much more satisfying to see him removed from office in chains, for treason.

    • This was easy to look up. You're actually born without US citizenship if you're born overseas and your US citizen parent hadn't been home in a while. They can eventually get it, but it takes years and hundreds of dollars, I'll explain.

      You need an I130 petition for Alien Relative for the child unless you're in the military, or both parents are American.

      -Then- you gotta wait 2 years for citizenship, but there are exceptions to that wait if your parent had been in the US recently.

      Birth Abroad Out-of-Wedlock to a U.S. Citizen Mother:

      A person born abroad out-of-wedlock to a U.S. citizen mother may acquire U.S. citizenship under Section 309(c) of the INA if the mother was a U.S. citizen at the time of the person’s birth and if the mother was physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year prior to the person’s birth. The mother must be genetically related to the person in order to transmit U.S. citizenship

      Has to be in the country within a year prior to birth. Same applies to married people regardless of sex but within 10 years.

      So if she had flown from the US to kenya within that year. Then he's an American. Or if they were married and it was less than 10 years.

      So even though his mother was American, there's a chance he's an illegal immigrant and she's a smuggler.

      • The only exception would be if you were born on a US military reservation while your parent was serving overseas, as McCain was born in Panama, on a US naval base, while his father was in the service.

      The term "natural born citizen" is thus far undefined legally (just recently a U.S. District Judge stated that the courts need to define the term and settle the issue) but most legal scholars agree that the Founding Fathers and standard word use of the time meant BOTH PARENTS MUST BE U.S. CITIZENS and that the person in question MUST REMAIN A U.S. CITIZEN ALL HIS LIFE. Obama certainly does not qualify according to the former, and he probably does not qualify by the latter. Our current president is a CITIZEN and a NATIVE BORN CITIZEN but he is not a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN as the Constitution requires. Unfortunately, every court case challenging his election has been dismiised for "lack of standing."

  • The best Hawaii could do was verify that Barry Soetero had, in fact, been born. Can't say where with any real authority, however.

    • Funny, exactly what I was thinking. Something along the lines of:

      "Hello, Arizona? This is Hawaii.... yes we're fine and you? Great... great.... anyway, we just wanted to call and let you know that we can say with absolute, 100% surety that Obama was, indeed, born. No... yeah.... well he showed us his belly-button, and that's good enough for us."
