Another day older and deeper in debt. No employer’s gonna call me cause I can’t go, I took crap classes, there’s nothing I know.”

Higher Education: Every college application your H.S. senior is filling out is from Colorado or Washington.
A useless easy-to-get degree is why they end up flipping burgers at McDonald's screaming about how they can't support their family on minimum wage. From the neck down, minimum wage is all you are worth. You make your money from the neck UP.

Might I suggest a 16 credit course in how to take a good healthy dump? That way both this and a course on how to emulate a pop diva would both have the same smell, and with my course they might learn something.
OK, I have to relate my Rutgers experience.
A bunch of years ago I was driving a truck for a department store chain.
On my way back to our warehouse, which was just a few miles south of Rutgers, I got in a big traffic jam. It seems Rutgers students were protesting some stupid thing or another, and they decided to sit in the middle of Route 18 by the college. I walked up to one of the police officers on the scene and told him that if they were to decide to arrest the 50 or so students, that they could put them in my empty trailer and I would gladly transport them to the police station. He radioed his supervisor and told him, they informed the protestors that if they didn't disperse, they would be arrested and thrown in the back of that big truck over there, and taken to jail. Suddenly, the protest was over.
It would have been even better if you had been driving a manure truck.

When discussing the value of a college education with folks, I say that college/university is like a buffet----if you want to, you can eat all desserts [courses in Gender Studies, as an example] if you like, but then all you get is fat.
OTOH, you can eat just the veggies and other stuff that is "good for you" [Science, Engineering, Math] in which case you're missing out on the "well rounded" aspect of a complete college education.
What the college student has to learn is the correct balance of higher education, mixed with the marketability of that degree, be it B.A., B.S., B.B.A., etc.
Speaking from my own experience, I took the tough stuff for the B.S. and ended up with a B.A. in Psychology as well....I really liked the babes in the Psych classes....the ones in Sociology, however, were bark-barks and absolute communists....think of them as red fascia bruta :-P

I was on both ends of the academic spectrum. I have a useless BA (Russian/Soviet Studies) and a MBA, which without I wouldn't have my job. I told all my kids the world has changed since my day - more competitive and college is outrageously expensive - so if they want to study Elizabethan poetry, they can do it on their own time. College for them means a tangible means to an end, which is why they were business majors.

Dang. Now I want to drop out of my Computer Architecture, Digital Signal Processing, Engineering Design, and Accounting (got to have that diversity) classes to learn all about a pop diva and pay for the privilege. Because that will get me a much better job than an Engineering degree.

One of the most poignant was a visibly angry young lady, all "hippied out" in her dress, indignant in her demeanor, holding up a sign that said: " I HAVE A B.A. IN TRANSGENDER HISPANIC STUDIES AND I CAN'T GET A JOB!!!"
Well, Duh.
Spend all that money for an education then you find out that your kid has a degree that is worthless and they are unable to find a job. Imagine that.
If one of mine came home a told me that they were taking a course like this, I would tell them from that point on, their college expenses were all theirs. What is next basket weaving for sex swings.
Sat in my dentist's chair Monday talking and reminiscing while he worked on something. We both attended the University of Michigan and we both advise our children and grandchildren to avoid higher education as much as possible, especially the big universities like the University of Michigan. The product they are selling is simply worthless. They indoctrinate more than they educate, mankind's knowledge base is now spread all over the Internet (most of it free to access), and if you absolutely need a degree to pursue the trade you've chosen then get in and get out as quick and cheap as you can. Make it a purely financial decision because those cesspools are no longer about education. You can get educated elsewhere, at your convenience.
