Good news, liberals. 53-year old Annise Parker has become only the second woman elected mayor of Houston. And to top that, she’s the first lesbian chosen to run any major American city.
Bad news, liberals. She’s a fiscal conservative.
We’ll pause briefly while liberal activists and gay rights activists recover from the sick feelings in the pits of their stomachs.
As the Los Angeles Times reports, “Parker neither proclaimed nor sought to hide her sexual orientation and ran on a platform of firm fiscal conservatism and her long experience in urban financial matters.”

If she is a homo that is between her and God.....If she governs responsibly good for her. she has my vote.
I could care less if she's an openly gay person so long as she doesn't let that interfere with how she governs. If she's a fiscal conservative, great! We need more of those. Her social policies really shouldn't mean anything for her executive responsibilities.
I live in TX and I tell you every day... Gay candidate for mayor... lesbian candidate for mayor... there was really no convo about her philosophies when it comes to fiscal responsibility etc... Perhaps because her campaign was obviously centralized in Houston the media overall didnt care to present bullet points as to who she was APART of her lesbianism and only Houstonians got to see what she was really about...?

The majority of Texas is filled with "Redneck, racist, oil-drilling cowboys" as the title of the article clearly says, however, Houston is a rare gem where there is some sanity and intellectual thought.
Houston has a majority democratic population, just look at their city council...This lady is also a democrat with sound fiscal experience...thats why she was elected.

News for Ya, Houston proper is no where near cowboy or red neck. It is urban and very ethnic.
Interesting... The most important thing for the media was that she is gay... there was no indication of her fiscal philosophies.
