  • Reminds me of a story -- not sure if it's true -- but the King of France (no, I don't remember which one it was supposed to be!) wanted the aristocracy of Paris, the ladies in particular, to not appear in public in the ostentatious jewelry they had gotten used to. A few attempts at regulation had failed (now THAT sounds familiar), so in a flash of genius he issued a decree that ONLY Paris' streetwalkers would be allowed to wear gold jewelry!

• Part of the war on culture that gays are waging is to claim historical figures were homosexual. Generally there is liitle or no evidence to support those claims. "George Washington sired no children so clearly he must not have enjoyed sex with his wife" is the usual level of logic employed. Richard the Lionhearted never married, sired no children (that we know of), and wrote about his love for the king of France. I don't know if he was gay, but claiming that he was gay is dishonest because nobody else knows either. And why does it matter? He was a terrible king, so why the gays want to claim him is beyond me.

  • When Lincoln was younger, men would sometimes stay in boarding houses. Sometimes they would pay for half a bed another man was already in. I admit I might try the floor before going to sleep in a bed with a stranger. But some liberals take this fact of Lincoln's life and make the argument that he was a secret homosexual, though there is absolutely no evidence he was.
