Coming up to the end of this 4 year debacle and he's fked and knows it. Getting OBL is the only thing positive thing that has happened during his tenure. The rest of it is dismal failure. He has to put his best foot forward and this is ALL that he has. The vague feel good hopey changey routine won't work this time.

And the mission that had originally seemed so preposterous had gradually come to seem feasible.
