jwalker, you sound like a guy I tried to have a convo with earlier in the year/last year. I said I understood where Van Jones was coming from re: business polluting in poor areas. The NIMBYS sure wouldn't put up with it!
He took that to mean I was onboard for *all* things liberal. When he discovered I wasn't, he accused me of "loving Pres. Bush" and then he stated that I MUST have voted for him - twice!!! When I told him I actually had *never* voted, he basically called me a liar and kept repeating {what I assume he considered the worst possible slams} "love Pres. Bush and you voted for him" - seems as soon as I showed I wasn't a lemming, he became enraged and insulting.
My other friends don't act like that, and they are mostly liberals! What is it about free thinkers that sets guys like you off?

First, j. Your sentence made no sense as written. Second, no. Most Tea Partiers, myself included, were disgusted with the way things were going in the Republican Party. Not as much as the Democrat Party, mind you. But disgusted nonetheless. So Christine O'Donnell was actually right in her debate, but "conventional wisdom" in the form of the electronic media made her out to be a fool. Any chance those noted Constitutional scholars, Professor Couric, Dr. Jansing, Chief Justice Matthews, would admit they were wrong in ridiculing her? Holding my breath, not.
Perhaps IHTM should start a day-counter, marking how long it takes before CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN get around to actually reading the Constitution (ABC apparently discovered a copy being used to wrap a free-range salmon in the network commissary this morning), the way that the networks counted the days our hostages were held in Iran -- that would be the Islamic Republic of Iran, for those who are sticklers for accuracy.

No, the concept of separtion is NOT found in the 1st amendment. It states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". Do you see anything about separation? No. This amendment was designed to protect our right to worship FROM the government. Not to separate government from religion.

As far as the Global Warming comment, I suppose you like pollution. Is that the case. You think we should just burn trash in our back yards instead of having it picked up and disposed of in a manner that minimizes impact? Should we all drive cars that get five miles per gallon? Should we all have coal power plants in every town? Do you hate science so much that you will never fly on a plane, drive a car, use a computer, take medicine? As far as AGW is concerned, it is a hoax.
1. Because global warming and cooling is a natural cycle.
2. Because there is no proof that any warming is man made
3. Because the increase of carbon dioxide occurs because of the warming. There is no proof that CO2 causes warming.
4. Because there is no proof that any of the Cap & Tax or any other schemes that the eco fascist cook up will result in the reduction of atmospheric CO2.
5. Because the purpose of all of these schemes will result is the enrichment of the eco-fascism movement.
6. Because there is no proof that any scheme to reduce CO2 will actually even result in any cooling.
The people that promulgate this baloney are playing you for a fool (which in David's case is extremely easy to do). AGW is the biggest hoax ever to be perpetuated on gullible individuals such as yourself. This movement has got nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with money and power.

That being said, you couldn't be more wrong. There is absolutely nothing in the First Amendment (or anywhere else in the Constitution) about "separation of church and state." Here's the actual wording, which may be helpful since it appears that you've never actually read it:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Do you see anything in those words that say anything about "separation of church and state?" Of course not.
The intent, as made abundantly clear by the Founders, was to prohibit the establishment of any state religion or any state-approved religion.
As I'm sure you know (or should know), the phrase "separation of church and state" come not from the Constitution, but from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1802 in response to a letter from the Danbury Baptist Association in which they complained that their state (Connecticut) was infringing on their religious rights.
