Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

No intelligent life on Mars? That means their all democrats?
The basis for all life is the element Carbon . This has never been found . I always bring that up when these type of postings come up . " Show me the Carbon !!!!
On a side note the world would shout it from the top of every mountain , if a single cell of life was ever found somewhere besides Earth , and yet an unborn child is NOT considered life , to the eyes of those that need to believe such .
No life form WE know of is based on Carbon. Doesnt mean they couldn't have a life form based on something else. In that Star Trek episode, wasn't ;ife based in silicone? Works in California!

The Martians probably didn't want to run afoul of Al Gore and got rid of all their carbon.
I get what you're saying. The left would probably give their lives to protect a single cell on Mars, but an unintentional unborn child is seen as a parasite and plague on the Earth.

Thanks , I should've clarified . I've never heard of any of the rock or soil samples containing Carbon . I still may be wrong on this one as well , but its Carbon they're looking for .
In addition to frozen CO2, lots of carbonate rock.. i believe that was taken as further evidence of ancient water flows.. Just no organics found yet
Oh i see. Yes you are right on that one. Although I believe only testing has been done on the upper layers of soils. There is a strong chance that the deeper layers can be rich in carbon.
Since carbon is one of the most abundant elements in our galaxy I think there is a strong chance that there may be some in the soil...somewhere.
Again , I may be wrong here , as the truth will be independent of whether i'm right or wrong . I just know , if life were there , there would be better evidense other than what has been shown so far .
If it were true , the very foundation of most religions would be deeply shaken . What causes even the most basic amino acids to replicate , I believe is not a chemical source . Time will tell .
No, that's simply not true, and one of the slurs alleged by the atheists -- or more accurately, the outcome they crave. There will probably a good whack of fundamentalist types that'll lose it, but most churches have long understood and accepted that Creation isn't necessarily restricted to this one world. C.S. Lewis of course made alien life on Mars and Venus central to his "Silent Planet" trilogy; granted his point wasn't to establish the possibilities of alien life, but by way of spiritual analogy.
Further - at least with regard to Mars -- the naysayers are fond of the notion that life on earth was seeded by organic material coming in from Martian meteors: I'm not sure if any of them have examined the equally-likely possibility that any Martian life was seeded from Earth! But why not? Isn't one as likely as the other?
I agree with you psycoDad. The beginning of Genesis notes that God created the heavens and the earth. The next line I believe the narration focuses solely on Earth. Other planets are not mentioned in the Bible (perhaps the moon though but my memory is foggy right now).
I don't see how life else where disproves religion. Science really is understanding the mind of God and to me it gives me a brief glimpse how amazing and complex God is. I also don't understand why some Christians seem to make a fuss over evolution. I believe that God uses the workings of science to create life and I don't think evolution contradicts the bible either.
Bible says God Created. It did not, however give a specified blueprint on all aspects of that creation. My God is big enough to have created anything and everything. And did.

I don't believe this is a zero sum game between xeno and gods.. Religious thought will adapt very quickly and easily to such discoveries

That's what I thought too. In the article, it says they sent another 2.5 billion machine up there to run more tests. Why? NASA is scrambling to discover how to remain relevant.
Well they are not sure how to their job as a space agency and reach out to Muslims at the same time. They are having difficulty locating any space stuff in Muslim society.
Doesn't surprise me. I bet there are plenty of planets in our galaxy and other galaxies as well with all sorts of complex life on them. It would be a tragedy if we were the only life in the Universe, because the Universe is really really awesome.
Actually there used to be intelligent life on Mars until the politicians screwed it all up and then moved to the planet Earth, where they now reside with their new Slime King Obama in Washington, DC.
