• On the plus side the solar farce plant does cook 400%+ of the estimated birds. So we got that going for us.

  Several years ago in 2006 the economic power house of Spain was all in on solar and green energy. The main university in Spain did a study that showed for every "green" job created (mostly through government tax money) they lost 2.3 real jobs. The Spanish leftists ignored that report and continued on. Now Spain is bankrupt. Same thing is coming here with leftist fascist democrats in charge.

  • That thing is providing 86 badly needed full time jobs. Off the books, it is also feeding and providing employment for 17 "migrant families' who scurry under the fence at night to collect all the 'solar kill', a euphemism given to the birds that are zapped when flying over this calamity. They set up stands on the road leading into the plant and pass off the solar kill as fried chicken and breakfast tacos to the unsuspecting 86 employees going to and from work.

    These 'migrant chicken farmers' are making such good money, that word has spread to as far as Argentina. Families are massing at the southern border and charging straight to the Mojave desert. The situation has devolved into a a chicken range war due to the glut of labor and limited supply of fresh solar kill and customers. US Marshalls and ICE have had to open satellite offices to resolve disputes when two workers find one carcass at the same time.

    This could be a game changer on the job front since the Marshalls are insistent that a motor pool is needed and the USPS is considering creating a new zip code for the area and opening a Post Office to serve the influx of people. Western Union is also opening an office so the migrant workers can send all their money back home.

    All in, this new outpost in the desert will provide 17,483 new Government jobs to service the 86 Ivanpah employees and the estimated 25 'migrant families.' Social Security has implemented a 18 million dollar study to see if an office will need to be built as well.

    • This just in, California Fish and Game and the Nevada Department of Wildlife are planning to build a joint base on the outskirts of Ivanpah. Seems the Peruvian immigrants have a taste for turtle soup and are laying waste to the endangered Desert Tortoise population in the area. The Sierra Club has their shorts in a knot over the mounds of tortoise shells that are dotting the landscape. So much so, that they are planning to picket the Peruvian embassy and create an international incident.

      Harry Reid's office released an official statement claiming the Koch brothers have set up an illegal turtle soup canning operation in the Mojave desert. The statement claims they are using forced slave labor and are involved in human trafficking to provide sex slaves to service the overworked turtle soup cannery workers/slaves. Off the record, Reid was overheard muttering something to the effect that, "that goddam*ed Cheney was up to his old tricks again."

• I keep wondering about the range of focus on that mirror they use to heat the boiler. Could they aim that thing at Sacramento and actually do something useful? Can they aim it straight up and take out Al Gore's private jet the next time he's flying somewhere to give a lecture about Global Warming? Cook him like a pigeon? Could they aim it at the Mexican border and turn the border into molten lava? There must be something they can do with it since it clearly sucks at making electricity..

• It's an expensive bird cooker. Wait for it, the bird fix will be a transparent dome covering the entire thing for another billion or so dollars. What the hell, it's not like it's real money, right?

• A solar power plant that runs on natural gas??? Sure, conservatives are the dumb ones.

  To flip it around, when is the last time a coal plant underperformed because it wasn't getting enough sun...

• So they want "extensions" on their loan payments (in case there are any liberals reading, that means they can't make their payments) and they want permission to use more natural gas to "get the plant started in the morning." They were approved to use natural gas for 1 hour in the morning, now they want to burn natural gas for 4.5 hours in the morning. At what point to you acknowledge you have a very large, very expensive, fossil fuel power plant and the solar energy part of the deal was a sham intended to get federal money?
