• This is why it is so IMPORTANT to require english courses. This man was born and raised American and I cannot understand this language he speaks, there is no rule or reason, just group some words, never mind anyone finding any sense to them!

    ALL public figures sound weird, when their words are very accurately translated as Jackson's are above.

    Here's an even more incomprehensible example from a favorite right wing public figure. Would you say that she can't speak English (the word is capitalized, by the way----did you not take any English courses yourself?), or is it possible that sometimes direct transcripts are harder to comprehend than hearing the words spoken?

    • a fair point.. idiots and poor speakers abound all over the spectrum.. Public speaking is one of the most feared and tricky human endeavors, too (assuming interview scenarios present similar challenges, in some respects)

      • Still, those who have difficulty with public speaking don't generally try to make their living doing . . . wait for it. . .PUBLIC SPEAKING!! We are not talking some random guy on the street who freezes when a microphone is stuck in his face. I still think it sound like word salad-maybe some brain damage there.

          I'm just making a point that its not the easiest thing in the world, for righties or lefties. Reflect upon how awkward and ridiculous most politicians sound, off the cuff. Party is irrelevant. I personally know corp executives who fear it, have taken counsel to fight the fear, and yet seem to perform adequately.

          I've seen surveys/statistics showing public speaking as a more common fear than "darkness", "heights", "confined spaces", or even violence and death. Remarkable, really, when its just talking with more onlookers. I remember a joke about how most people would rather be in the casket at a funeral, then performing the eulogy

          I don't have any particular desire to defend Jesse Jackson. I haven't even listened to this.. Conversely, do I think Perry completely forgot that 3rd Department? No.. i actually sympathize, and i love that ad where he pokes fun at himself.

    Well, now, isn't that odd? I've always noticed that many Americans (especially those who worship money and power) seem to have the attitude that Christmas is for the affluent. Certainly, I don't see too many far righters showing much charity toward the poor, even at this time of year. Not the way they keep blaming the poor for their own poverty and lack of opportunity.

    What was that that your late lamented political hero, Herman Cain, said? Something like, "If you're not rich, it's your own fault." Not only is that an un-Christian attitude----it's also pretty stupid of him, to assume that everyone in the country could get rich, if only they worked hard enough.

    Heaven knows I'm no fan of Jesse Jackson, but I think he's right to remind the public that Christmas is about caring for, as Jesus put it, "the least of My brethren"....and lay aside the judgmental attitude, while we're at it.

      Poor people going into Wal-Mart in the south gave much more money to the Salvation Army kettles than wealthy people going into an upscale store in San Francisco.

      • Once again into the breach. When passing by the Salvation Army Kettles I always put in at least 5.00. I spend at a minimum of 75.00 on Toy for Tots. I take my 11 year old son and have him select gifts for Toy for Tots and pay with it from his own money.

        I'm not among the 1% I'm just a hard working man who has pulled himself up off the ground on three different occasions and made something of my self. I do not look upon the poor with disgust, but with compassion, as I was there and know exactly how they feel.

        Merry Christmas to ALL, not just a select few.

      Then you're not looking very hard. A dirty little secret: The more religious, poorer sections of the country are more charitable than the wealthier, more secular parts of the country.

  • That reminds, where the hell is his church? This hack is a "Reverend", but does'nt seem to preach at a church. Same goes for Sharpton. Neither of the "Justice Brothers" seem to have a flock who goes to a church to hear them speak.

    • In some denominations, there is a process and an evaluation of those wishing to enter the ministy. In others, and moron with a Bible and a speaking voice can declare him or herself a pastor, and the game is on. Oh, and Reverend isn't a name. It is a title., as in "The Reverend Whomever." Calling someone Reverend (as opposed to Brother, Father (for Priests) or Sam, is an incorrect use, but the media can't seem to figure that out. In any case, Jesse doesn't seem to HAVE a church. He is a self styled "Reverend" as is Sharpton. A REAL Minister would never do or say the devisive things they are famous for.

  The Christmas story is about the Son of God being born in a manger, to a mother (who'd been pregnant before betrothal) and stepfather, under the most primitive and uncomfortable of circumstances. Why, then, has it become traditional to focus on piling up lots of "stuff" under our own Christmas trees, rather than remembering those who have little or nothing?

I decry the appalling commercialization of Christmas, but to assume only the poor can identiify with the Saviour is completely contrary to his teachings. Besides, more and more Black people are in fact in an assortment of non-Christian religions themselves, so what the hell is he talking about?

        You're right---she was betrothed when she became pregnant. Now, how about addressing the point I made----about Jesus being born in the humblest of circumstances, which would suggest perhaps that remembering the poor is an appropriate way to commemorate the day?

The beauty of Christ's teachings is that ALL are welcome, regardless of their status in life. And He does regularly remind us not to get too wound up in the things of the world, and to value our spiritual growth more than our material growth.
