Justice Roberts: Can the government make you buy a cell phone?

Justice Roberts: Can the government make you buy a cell phone? Obviously the honorable Mr. Roberts has never heard of Safelink Wireless. They make us buy cellphones all the time . . . and likely for the very same people that now expect us to provide them with “free” health insurance.

  • I read somewhere that government-run healthcare will have all of the efficiency of the post office, all the compassion of the IRS, and all the competency of the public school system.

  • Yes the government really needs to get in the health insurance market. I mean look how well everything worked out when the government got involved in the housing market with barney frank and chris dodd, carter, clinton et al claiming everyone deserves a home of their own. Then set about to produce legislation to give loans to people without the means to pay them back. Yep that government involvement worked out real good didn't it?

    • Hey John; Man you just don't get it do you? Talk about stuck on stupid take a look in the mirror.

    • What is the troll's meaning? It is so weird, it is as if the troll is attempting human language.

      • "Judge Wapner. I'm an excellent driver."

[Note: I am not making fun of the genuinely disabled.]

    • You need to get a new line occupooper...You keep yelling the same shit with nothing meaningful in it. Bad government, blah blah blah, gimme free shit, blah blah blah, whine whine whine......I bet your one of the first to scream like a circus clown who catches fire when you have to pay the tax for not getting health insurance, unless of course you still live in mommy's basement and really just leach off your parents, which I am guessing is probably truer than we can imagine....Why don't you go occupoop on Huffpoo...yea that has a nice ring to it.

      • I never said bad government, I said bad corporations. Of course I doubt you even read my post.

        Keep Occupying!

        • Glad to see you're still in the fight John. We sincerely appreciate any way that your contributions might be able to keep Obamacare intact in the form that the President and the progressives intended. Most especially as it regards the individual mandate. I can not overstate the importance of maintaining the government's authority to make people buy our products.

So keep occupying John, when the people are forced to increase the amount of insurance they are buying (in order to provide it for you and your flea bagger friends) my house gets bigger and my car gets that newer car smell!

  • "No, Mr. Chief Justice. think that's different. It's -- We -- I don't think we think of that as a market. This is a market."

It doesn't matter what "we" or "I" think is a market, any time buyers and sellers come together, it is a market, and EVERY market is different. The market for cars is different from the market for health insurance is different from the market for cell phones, etc, etc. Government sticks its nose into and distorts many of them. The fact that government doesn't feel a need to compel citizens to enter those other markets today does NOT mean a future one won't want to compel them to enter those markets tomorrow, and the mealy-mouth justification they will use for that mandate will be modelled on the justification Obama's mouthpieces are using for this one... "Ooooh, it's a special market" or "oooh, the common good" or whatever. There is no "just this time, it's different." The only way to preclude any similar mandates in the future is to invalidate this one now.
