The part about kids growing up hating healthy food is the part that REALLY bothers me. I am not as hysterical over the increase in weight, though I realize the American diet is not great. But what are we using to establish healthy weight? My parents were raised in the depression, where food was a premium. The boomers were raised immediately during and after WWII when many "fluff foods" such as sugar and fat were rationed. I have a WWII era cookbook sent to women to help them make cheap meals that included adequate nutrition with the foods that were available. Ao for later generation to weigh more is not that strange. Add to that a ;ifestyle that abhors play (its non-productive) and a food supply that is contaminated with everything from hormones to bacteria, and is it any wonder the food is affecting the people who eat it? Besides, a number of professional chefs have gone to school districts and developed adequate, healthy, tasty food the kids likes, within the price limits set. It CAN be done. The biggest problem they had waas working around the government food they had to use and how servings were counted.
Sounds like they were hoping the Common Core curriculum would make the kids too stupid to notice that their food tastes like crap.
