On a more serious note, does this pipeline sound like a bit much? Unlike the Alaksa pipeline, it looks like this would be going through some majorly populated areas and the potential for a serious accident seems quite significant, especially by Mohammaden terrorists, oops, I mean a "person-caused disaster." Because the other think about the AK line is that is through wasteland, not what looks like the heart of agricultural territory.

PsychoDad, you make a good point, so I looked up the map on the internets and found that most of the XL pipeline would go through wastelands anyway.
And once it hits the Texas border, there's not a great deal of fear about "person-of-cave-dwelling-history-caused disaster." Nor of nasty leaks and what not. Texans are rightfully proud of our state, and don't like anyone to mess wit (sic) it.

I guess she does not realize this pipeline will employ thousands of people to build it then provide permanent jobs for the thousand or two it will take to monitor and maintain the pipeline.
We heard all the same crap about the Trans-Alaska pipeline before it was built. How many major oil spills have occured in the 30+ years it has been in use? None. How many ecological disasters have been caused by it? None.
We need to build the Keystone XL pipeline and start on it now. The added bonus is it will be very close to the Bakken oil fields in Montana and North Dakota and that oil can be added to what comes from Canada to further insure our oil supply instead of further enriching OPEC and Hugo Chavez.

And I'm sure she doesn't realize that there's an already-existing pipeline covering something like 2/3 or 3/4 of the route to Texas already so this isn't something that unusual or untried etc. or that has been contaminating ground water or whatever b.s. enviro fears the Green-Left are pushing.
It's also moronic because it's not going to stop Alberta Tar Sands production "to fight global warming" [sic very sic]. Production is going to continue and we will just build a pipeline to the West Coast and sell the oil to China instead. So all it's doing is killing U.S. jobs and oil sufficiency coming from a close, democratic ally rather than immorally-sourced oil like Hugo's.
