Libertarian Jesus

Libertarian Jesus

Libertarian Jesus. “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s…” not “From each according to whether they’re my cronies, to each according to my need.”

  • How on Earth is that a strictly Libertarian notion?

Jesus would not back pornography, prostitution (he told them to "Go and sin no more," if you'll recall), dueling (true Libertarians believe in "2 consenting adults," and our Founding Fathers were into it), and DEFINITELY NOT abortion!

This stupid cartoon just pisses me off.

    • There is no record of Jesus making any comment about abortion (much less making political statements about same), so it's dishonest of you to try to put words into His mouth.

On the contrary, He had a LOT to say against hypocrisy, lack of charity toward one's fellow man, divorce and remarriage (are any of you righties on your second or third spouse, with the previous one still living?) and intolerance toward others. As for the subject of taxes, when His political enemies tried to pin Him down on that one, He simply said, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

In short, He was NOT a political rebel and He did NOT embrace a particular political ideology, no matter how hard you try to pretend that He did. He was focused on the Kingdom of God, not the government. Always.

Honestly, do any of you righties ever bother to read the Bible that you pretend to revere so much? Because most of Religious Right "values" have little to do with following in the path of Jesus, and everything to do with worshipping the Republican party.

      • And she's back. Jesus lived in a society where abortion was a heinoous sin, so he never needed to caution against it. The culture had already done that. His goal was to bring peace to the people, and reconciliation between each ther and God. Hardly the stuff of the conquering Roman Empire (or any of the other conquering groups of the time. So he WAS a political rebel. Why do you think the Romans kept such a close watch on him? Have YOU ever read the Bible, specifically the New Testament?

      • Olivia:"There is no record of Jesus making any comment about abortion"

Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17 tell us "Thou shalt not kill." But this is to be understood as "Thou shalt not murder a human being." It does not apply to animals or instances in which in an act of self-defense, or in a just war, a human being kills another human being.

Jesus reaffirmed thou shalt not murder and thou shalt not commit any sexual sin:

"You know the commandments:'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery'" - Mark 10:19(See also Luke 18:20; Matthew 19:18)

I'm Catholic like PsychoDad and so I believe the Voice of Jesus still speaks through His Church. But even Scripture alone tells us that not everything Jesus said or did is in Scripture:

"Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world not have room for the books that could be written." -John 21:25

Jesus' earliest followers seemed to be under the impression that He was against abortion:

"Thou shalt not slay the child by by procuring abortion"
        -Letter of Barnabas, 74 AD

"And these were the accursed who conceived and caused abortion"
-from a vision of women in Hell because of unrepented abortions Peter is said to have seen before his death and contained in The Apocalypse of Peter, 137 AD

"You shall not procure an abortion"
        -Didache 2:1, 150 AD

"Let her that procures an abortion undergo ten years' penance, whether the embryo was perfectly formed or not" - St. Basil the Great, 374 AD

Of course, one doesn't need to be religious to know abortion is wrong, it violates the natural law engraved on conscience and is easily understandable. And laws which forbid abortion are not impositions of religious teachings, but correct interpretations of the natural law. I don't hear any complaints from liberals of an imposition of a religious law "Thou shalt not kill" when a born human being kills another born human being. In that case, do you not recognize a natural law?

In Luke 1, Elizabeth calls barely pregnant Mary "the mother of my Lord".
Not the mother of my fetus Lord, or the mother of my potential Lord, but the "mother of my Lord." Psalm 139 and Jeremiah 1 also make plain God's Love for each of us even before we are conceived and then conceived.
I sincerely pray that while you're on this earth, Olivia, you quit fulfilling a Scripture:

"There are some things in those (epistles of Paul) that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction, just as (they distort and misinterpret) the rest of the Scriptures." - 2 Peter 3:16

You oughta give a little though to this quote:

"People become lost amidst the errors or illusions of aberrant ideologies."
        -Pope Benedict XVI

Others Christians besides Catholics also condemn abortion:

"the unborn, though enclosed in the womb of his mother, is already a human being, and it is an almost monstrous crime to rob it of life which it has not yet begun. If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man's house is his most secure place of refuge, it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy the unborn in the womb before it has come to light."
-from John Calvin (1509-1564) on Exodus 21:22

      • How DO you manage to type while in a straitjacket? Do you hold a pencil in your teeth? That must be rather time consuming considering how long your frequent bouts of mental diarrhea tend to be.

      • Technically she is correct. That is why (if my Protestant brethren will permit my POV) Jesus Christ did not leave behind Him an instruction manual, He established a Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. A Church which was intended to provide ongoing guidance and instruction down the ages, and which does not put words into Christ's mouth, but receives and transmits them under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

        Sorry Livvy, you FAIL again.

        • But PEOPLE screwed that up, because they could not behave themselves and stop being greedy. Greedy for recognition, power. money (which is tied up in power) and the ability to lord it over their fellows. The Holy Spirit is there and ready to go, but freqently we aren't listening.

        • Gospel of John, C. 14

          25 I have said these things to you while still with you;

26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you.
          ==

It is CLEARLY Scriptural that inspired teaching and development does not end with the disappearance of Christ from Earth.

      • Now your a religious expert too? Apparently at the mental health facility you live in there is nothing your not an expert at......Fucking loon...

    • Yea, Jesus wasn't so much of a Libertarian as a Conservative.
He wanted you to help others if you could, but didn't really go in so much for allowing people to use illegal drugs, porn, and I think His Dad did say something about no adultery.

  • Proverbs 6:6-11
Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,
Prepares her food in the summer
And gathers her provision in the harvest.
How long will you lie down, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
“A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest”—
Your poverty will come in like a vagabond
And your need like an armed man.

    1 Thessalonians 4:11
...and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

    2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."

    Proverbs 12:11
Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.

    Psalm 128:2
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

    • yet deacons were named to address the needs of the widows and needy, The truly needy are to be care for,. The goodSamaratan helped hs prother and paid for his medical care, regardless of his ethnicity. No gevernment. People were told to care for one another. I accuse Christians here. If we were all doing our jobs, there would BE no need for government intervention.

      • Ephesians 4:28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

Many taking from workers could be working themselves and helping the truly needy.

The progressive drive to farm votes has grown our welfare rolls to unsustainable levels. Under Obama they have flourished.

Sure the church should do it's part to help the down and out, and in many cases they do, but our welfare system would work if it was not so severely abused by the powers that be.

      • There never was, the government, under FDR, unilaterally decided to become the nanny for the country. They confiscated money from the citizens to pay for their largesse, and it resulted in diverting money from the churches, because people had less money to help their neighbor. That meant the churches had less to help. In the meantime, the government spends so much of the money administering these programs, that they are in effect, stealing food from babies mouths.

  • It does point out what a bunch of hypocritical liars most progressive liberals are. But then socialism has always been for the masses, not the socialist.

  • Oh, ker-SNAP! Love it. That's getting used a lot next time I see the leftards trying to teach conservatives about what Jesus said.

  • Socialist Jesus:

From each according to their abilities.
To each according to their needs.
    Use of force required.
