Well, the steamroller was obviously progressing. Interesting and ironic that the driver probably hesitated at some point and someone had to order him forward... thus using our current president's campaign slogan.
Didn't Obama, early in his only term, say something along the lines that he really thought that there were advantages to one govt party systems? Cut down on the noise and let progress happen??

This is shocking. This was a man defending what's his: property, family, livelihood. By American standards, probably not worth dying for, but it was his. A sliver of the world he called home.
Then a vice mayor has the authority to tell a government worker to kill a civilian so the government can build another city that no one lives in. How can anyone not have sympathy for this man and his family?
I'm sure there are literally hundreds of people in this man's community that have sympathy for him, but when your life is in some strong man's sights and what you say or do can get you and your entire family literally thrown under the steam roller and there is no advocate in sight, you learn to grieve inside and quietly.

Or you revolt. Hopefully the Chinese will do that sooner rather than later. Stunning historical culture, some good some bad, as with all, but no doubt a lot of pride should be felt by them. Their current standing, well that falls under bad, but their future could fall under good, it depends on the people. We don't really know how many instances like this happen because the government controlled media in China and the US won't report it. I'm sure dissidents are killed daily over there, it is communism after all.
Eventually their system will fail, just like ours will if we continue to emulate them.
Human life is cheap to Communists and often not of much more value to Socialists and liberals.

I like to think of Progressives as Government Interventionists..
On the one hand, you get Child Labor Laws, which Progressives lay claim to. On the other, you get the 18th Ammendment
Government is the tool, and unfortunately Government also holds a monopoly on authorized use of force (or delegation thereof). This causes a great many discomfort. In the U.S., we've attempted to distribute authorized use-of-force through castle and stand-your-ground laws, so I think we have something a bit better then most nations. But otherwise I don't know where else to place that force monopoly...

Progressives lay claim to a lot of things they shouldn't, and like to forget the things which are awkward. Hugo Black is the original author of the Fair Labor Standards Act which finally tried to get a handle on child labor abuses... abuses, by the way, which were pretty much disappearing on their own as society became more educated. He wanted to mandate 30-hour work weeks. Thank God other people saw the silliness of that and rewrote the legislation. He was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan as a senator and adament enough to have filibustered an anti-lynching law. All in all, a typical progressive, initiating good discussions on some things but completely lacking in ethical limits to his use of power.
With progressives you also get eugenics, a "living breathing" Constitution, a strong belief in a centrally planned economy, corporatism, and hyper-nationalism. just review the Wilson administration for example upon example...in short, the Progressive Era was proto-facsism.
When you have over a billion at your disposal, you are damn right human life is cheap. The Chi-coms don't care at all about human rights. They never have, & they never will.
