According to Taxichusetts law you're supposed to retreat from anything before shooting. Good thing this stupidity wasn't around back in 1776.

I retreated one step back, raised my weapon, and fired.
If the bear gets too aggressive, shoot the bear, then throw down an old weapon next to it and leave a suicide note. They rarely do autopsy's on large dangerous vermin.

Black bears are USUALLY non aggressive, but I would not bet MY life on it either.
Wonder if the "environmental guy" has a weapon or does he just give bear hugs to stop the violence and the attack.
Just an aside, I have friends who like near Pollack Pines here in Kalifornia. They have a house that borders the El Dorado National Forrest. One night a "gentle Ben" decided to break in and take a tour of the store room and kitchen, When he did his big old butt hit the steel door and locked it. The bear, big, huggable and lovable as could be tore the sheetrock off the walls, and tore the door out of the frame to get out,. I saw the claw marks. Doesn't matter if this guy stayed in the house, if the bear feels like coming in he will. and the Game and Fish Warden asked my friend's wife why she didn't shoot instead of running out the front door, she said, "all I had was my 38 and that would just piss the bear off"....They now have a 44 magnum in a little bear shaped cabinet.
I have seen a couple bears in the area of this guys house, big, very large claws and big teeth to eat you right up.... Massachusetts , where the morons are in charge....
The enviromental guy has a secret for getting bears to do what he wants, he gives them rim jobs.
As an aside I've been going to the Sierras hunting, fishing and camping since I can remember. I've run into many a black bear. Never had a problem with any of them. Now people....that's a different subject.
They will take guns from citizens at all costs-even if they are just defending themselves from bear attacks, rapists, bank robbers-whomever and whatever-they are going to take your guns.
