Massive 7.85 million recall for popular US gun

• I've been hearing stories for a while that the 700's were prone to firing when bumped or when the safety is turned off. Never seem to have a problem with the Rugers though.

• If it's anything like an automotive recall, the guns aren't going back to Remington. You'll take it to a qualified gunsmith, hopefully one of your own choosing, and he'll install a new trigger group provided by Remington.

  I used to have a Remington 700 myself, chambered in .270. I also had no problems with it. But after reading the story, I have to believe the trigger design is not a good one as far as safety is concerned.

• My 700 was almost 60 years old, my dad's. Never had a problem until I lost it in a tragic boating accident. Even if I still had it, it wouldn't be leaving my possession.

• Do I smell fear in this administration. Is this another veiled attempt to confiscate weapons they deem too dangerous to be in the hands of us knuckle dragging troglodytes? We are not deemed worthy, by the elitist class, to fend for ourselves, to defend ourselves, to grow our own food, to raise our own children and especially to think for ourselves, because they know that we would reject them and their bullshit out of hand! And we do already, so they're just getting ready for a final take down...so they think. Whatever it is they're getting ready for, it won't work out quite the way they think it will. Or is there something really wrong with these rifles? In this day and age, under this political administration, I question everything for every reason!

  • It may be an opening they may try to exploit, but it sounds to me like there is a real issue and problem here. When the man who actually DESIGNED the mechanism: 1) Says there is a problem, 2) Proposes a fix for the problem, and 3) States that 'Remington's rejection of his proposal "had something to do with cost." ' I think we can concede that THERE IS A PROBLEM.

  • 7,850,000 rifles out there and they had around 100 incidents? There is no problem. That is a .0000125 error rate. This is a payday for class action lawyers. Remington decided it was cheaper to do this than pay legal fees. However with this fascist Obama regime it would not be surprising Remington was forced to do this.

    • I don't know where you saw 100 incidents. It's way higher than that. Way higher. It's at least in the thousands if not in the tens of thousands. One gun range operator calls any inadvertent firing at his range a "Remington moment." Military units and SWAT teams have filmed documentation of the guns firing without the trigger being touched. THE INVENTOR OF THE TRIGGER MECHANISM knew there was a problem in 1947 and designed a fix, but it cost 5 1/2 cents a gun so the company decided against it. A Texas man was awarded $17 million dollars by a jury after blowing off his own foot because in the middle of the trial, while a gun expert was testifying, the Remington he had in his hands fired without the trigger being touched... it wasn't loaded but the judge stood up and declared, "Let the record show that the gun just fired without the trigger being touched." End of case.

        I read 100 incidents not injuries.

  • Well Obutthead tried a couple end runs around the second amendment, That did not work so he had the EPA go after Ammo, next how about recalls and you never get the gun back cause the Consumer Product Safety Commission says it is too dangerous to use. Nothing surprises me about this administration and there is absolutely NO reason to trust them on anything. That includes those fat ass Rinos.
