uuummmm. I don't really think she is smarter than, well, anybody!
Think about it this way, she's gotten away with commiting all kinds of mayhem in Hollywood for years and only spent jail time equivalent to a time-out. That probably says more about her lawyer's intellegence, but not more intellegent than anyone may be a bit harsh. Remember, Obama's cabinet hasn't exactly set the bar really high.
And of course there IS Congress. I stand corrected. She is alertenough to know when to breath, so I guess she's not THAT stupid.
She is very intelligent, but it is not in the way that most of use think of intelligence. It is shrewdness. People like that are quick to get out of trouble or to use every opportunity to their own advantage. It runs parallel to the more normal kind of intelligence, but stands on it's own.
That's why the stupidest people are sometimes successful. And why some of the smartest people end up doing the dumbest things.

It's scheduled for next month. The further back it goes, the more likely she will get off. I expect that the gossip sites will be talking about her "rehab" which will probably start the day after christmas or new years eve - depending on how much weight her lawyer has with her. She will come out "clean" and a changed person. She is smart enough to stay straight for the weeks between the rehab and the court date AND a few weeks after that. That way she can show the judge next time, that she was serious, but just stumbled.
It's really sad. This poor child was used and trashed by her parents. I think she is almost beyond saving now. This is one reason that I refuse to watch recent movies. I cannot, in clear conscious, help reward the people who helped create the situations like this. They offer so much money to greedy parents who are willing to sell their kids as prostitutes. They may not (or may!) be physically raped, but they are most assuredly emotionally raped by practically everyone in their young lives. And then they are turned out to the world. It's sickening.

My Dad used to talk about "shrewed people." He described them almost word for word as you did. Crazy-like-a-fox kinds of people!
Maybe she's smarter then those advising Obama & the Dems about taxation.
