Michael Moore: No, Obama didn’t save Detroit. “No, he didn’t. He saved General Motors and Chrysler… global corporations who suck our towns dry and then split town to make more money elsewhere (except, of course, they continued to design and built crap cars, so eventually they didn’t make the money at all).” Is Moore rolling out the “progressivism didn’t fail, Obama did” meme already? If so, it’s not a good omen for the Light-headed One.

Screwed them all and and they didnt even get a kiss. barry must be in really deep if the liberal whale moore is bitching about his lack of saving Detroit and the auto industry. The US auto industry killed itself, negotiated contracts that came due and no way to pay for it. Shabby workmanship that the American people got tired of paying for. So there is plenty of blame to go around for the failure of the auto industry.
Those who where non union members got gutted like a fish on a table and not a single word from any of the press about it. Most where not big salaried executives, they where IT, secretaries, engineers, designers, graphic artist and the like. Their only fault was not being a member of the UAW.
Obama didn't save Detroit, that city died decades ago. Obama didn't save GM or Chrysler, an ordinary Chapter 11 could have done that. Obama did save the UAW---but in doing so he screwed non-union employees (but they don't contribute to his reelection campaign anyway).
Moore might be partially right, but he's wrong by omission. It was Bush who started the auto bailout, then it was Obama who continued it. When the bailout failed, AS ROMNEY SAID IT WOULD, GM and Chrysler declared bankruptcy, EXACTLY AS ROMNEY RECOMMENDED THEY SHOULD DO. Watching the Democrats constantly brag that Obama saved the automobile industry while Romney wanted them to go bankrupt, when in fact both GM and Chrysler did go bankrupt, is one of the more bizarre lies that the mainstream media lets them get away with.
Part of the problem is that the general media doesn't know shit about most things outside of where the best restaurants are and which bar makes the best martinis. This goes eleventy for financial matters; expecting them to connect the dots and realize the processes that started the auto industry on the road to bankruptcy started in the 50s and 60s is several bridges too far for them.
People in general do not "get" cause and effect and consequences of actions over a short period, let alone the long term. I often hear people say "I don't understand why A happened" and I explain to them "It's because you did B without taking into account that C, D and E were going to affect your decision and would result in A" and they look at me like I was speaking a foreign language. The real tragedy is that the people who work in media are also this dense but unfortunately, they are supposed to be "informing" the rest of us. It's like Gilligan trying to "inform" Albert Einstein. The financial press is somewhat better about these things, there are really some good writers and thinkers in that line, but the general public usually doesn't read them, relying instead on the hack reporters on CNN and such.
