Michael Moore: Patriotic Americans will wait longer for healthcare

If you are a patriotic American, you want every American to be covered the same as you. And it’s true. We want every American to have health care. And strongly support their right to provide it for themselves.

Exactly, that is why government should have SOME regulation to prevent abuses by corporate insurance companies and to prevent them to get so big that they become a monopoly other than that, the government should not impose all these regulations so the insurance companies must cut everything they canin order to exist. Do not prevent people from getting it if they want it and do not allow companies to abuse people, and do not punish citizens when they don't want it.

  • I get so tired of "healthcare" being used interchangeably with "health insurance." Everyone in America has access to healthcare. Everyone in America does NOT have the right to have said healthcare paid for by someone else.

    • Exactly - this is just the dang point - they use words and acronyms and twist em all up to get their way - same as miss high britches does every day on this here website - they call people names and label people into categories. They play on the stupidity of the masses and change the names of things in order to get votes. Healthcare in this here country is top notch - nothin better in the dang world. Nobody is ever - EVER turned away from a healthcare issue - yet they put out this misinformation like somebody out there aint gettin trerated because they is poor.....bunch of dang hooey - everybody gets treated...it's how y'all gonna end up payin for it.

      These clowns are thinkin you and me need to be payin for it and they all in a bunch cause we don't want to pay for it. I'm tired of payin for some low life that can't or don't want to do it on his own. Some people out there have some legitimate issues and I aint got no problem with that, no sir....but why should I pay for some dang fool that just don't want to get up off his butt and actually do somethin with himself?

      • That guy isn't going to get off of his butt because under the current system he has no incentive to do so. If welfare pays $240 per week and minimum wage (full time) pays $300 per week is the unskilled and uneducated slug going to work 40 hours per week for $60 incremental dollars? Clearly, the answer is no. Is he going to improve himself and take advantage of educational and/or vocational programs? And screw up all of that leisure time? Apparently not.

  • Please give me a break, Michael Moore is an expert only on two things, his bank account and spouting half truths and out and out lies.

    Any person who can does come the US for medical care from Canada and Britain do so. If a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer in Britain, his chance of survival is less than 10 percent, while here in the US its over 90 percent. Why is this, its due to the fact that a man in Britain can not see an oncologist for up to 18 months. Once they see the oncologist the cancer has metastases to a point where nothing can be done for them.

    • I spoke to one of my friends whom I would describe as liberal. She describes herself as left of center. She calls people like Olivia "knee jerk liberals" and its not a positive description. Anyway, I mentioned something about the waivers in passing,and she had no idea what I was talking about. I am telling you,they have NO IDEA what they are supporting!

          • I didn't insist but I did open up one of the links and the survival rate of the overall male population is comparable to the survival rates here but when you drill down you see that the stats only include those treated. Since access is an issue, who knows what the real rate is? In other words, how many are denied treatment in the UK who would have received treatment here?

          • A fair question, would be an interesting dig.. the same statistical issue may be present in our numbers, too.

            Access is an issue here as well. My anecdotes include half of my family residing in U.K., who may gripe about NHS but still fill my ears with chatter about doctors and hospital visits.. both my grandparents lived well into their 80s. One cousin even has private health insurance (offered by employer to sweeten the hire). Its not the horrorshow presented here.. of course it sucks at times and so does ours

          • I agree...but since we have better survival rates here...why are we getting rid of our current system to match those of countries who have worse rates of survival? I have relatives who are on assistance that get great health care - waaaayyy better than my privately paid insurance. All government programs. So I think it's nuts to change what we have.

            Probably not much. It really depends on the type of prostate cancer. Most forms are very slow growing. So depending on the patient's age it might not be worth treating at all. IF the paitent is in his 70's or 80's when the onset of prostate cancer occurs, he will likely die of old age or other causes before the cancer has a chance to do any real harm. That said, there is a more aggressive form of prostate cancer but it is rarer. In truth, every man will eventually develop prostate cancer, if he lucky enough to live long enough.

  • Translation: if you're a "patriotic American", you want everybody in the country to have shit healthcare except for Barack Obama and Nancy Botox Pelosi. And you want the country to go bankrupt even faster than it is now. Because that's what's gonna happen.

    Yeah, everybody, let's support tubby's concept of a "patriotic American" because he's so damn patriotic himself. Kinda like asking the Commissar of GM to define a good Ford product.

      • I thnk he should go back to Cuba and apply for a gastric bypass. I guarantee in a year after the surgery, he will have overeaten the surgery to the point that he would still be about the same weight. Maybe he could sign up for Michelle's food and ecxercise program.

  • Ha ha ha! So far, not one of you have addressed what Moore was actually saying......because you can't. You HAVE no solutions to the health care crisis, other than bumper sticker slogans about working hard. Never mind that some of the country's hardest working Americans----those working at low level, no-benefits jobs just to pay the bills----CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY THEIR OWN INSURANCE.

    You're also SO busy trashing Michael Moore's physique and dress sense, that you have no answer to another very obvious question: who ultimately pays for the health care needs (translation: expensive damage control) of the uninsured and underinsured?

    As usual, the far right wing response is to defend the business opportunities of the rich and powerful, at the expense of the nation in general. But, because they're too timid to admit it, they hide behind a lot of silly (and, in Jethro's case, hokey hillbilly lingo) "Michael Moore is a fat slob!" putdowns.

    • How's this Olivia? In other countries there are waiting lines for gall bladder removals, heart surgery, cancer treatment and more. Literally thousands of people from Canada, Europe, and other countries (including your precious Middle East) come to AMERICA to get treatment, since we have the best healthcare in the WORLD! They wait for years for needed surgery, and finally get tired of it and come here to be treated, or to get treatments not available in other countries. I agree that access needs to be inmproved in America. I would far rather treat someone for diabetes early on, that try to explain to them why we are cutting off their leg, or they are going blind becuase they didn't care for their diabetes in the first place. But even here, even with NO insurance, true emergency care IS provided, and even if the person never is able to pay all the bills, they receive excellent care, regardless. Since you allegedly have ER experience, you know this perfectly well, so STFU!

      • Anyone with a lick of sense knows that Obamacare isn't a good answer. So what we need to do, is get together a group of INTELLIGENT people, who have knowledge of both how to care for people, and how to run the financial side of it. And come up with some ideas as to how to provide quality health care that the country can afford.

        Now, since I DID mention intelligence, and knowledge of the subject, that lets out the President, his entire cabinet, all the czars, everyone in Congress, and My Dear Sweet Olivia.

      Care to provide some support for what he was saying? Since you seem to think he is an expert, give us some solid evidence to prove that he was telling us the truth, can you? He provided no support for his statement. I know many people from Canada and Britain who will state he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about, because they live it. They deal with their systems every day and know the hoops they have to jump through.

      It's just a little thing to throw up the knee replacement example, but what about the headaches that have been occurring for a month and the scan cannot be done for two months, all the while the tumor inside someone's head is growing and not being treated.

      I do have many solutions, too many to post in one comment. But I will share one with you. Illegals are draining the healthcare system and not paying into it. The free ride for people who have no legal right to be here has to stop or this is going to get worse and worse, even for people who do have insurance. Do that and we will all see a huge difference in costs to those of us who do pay into the system.

      But as we all know from your past BS statements, you will call me racist. And that's okay, because we all know you cannot contend on any other level.

      • I am curious, what is the solution for someone making minimum wage with no job provided insurance?

        My employer kicks in and I still pay $250/month for family coverage, not to mention co-pays/meds.. luckily I am beyond min wage

        • To me, the most logical thing for somebody who is only capable of making minimum wage, is to put off having a family until they have worked their way up the employment ladder a bit.

          • Are there not all sorts of programs for that exact contingency? SCHIP for families who don't qualify for Medicaid?

          • CHIP is intended for people who don't qualify for medicaid because they make too much money. In my state, you can cover ALL your children for around $50 a year, max. So it seems most kids would be covered somehow.

          • i remember a couple very fat republicans at work frothing in opposition to re-authorization of CHIP a few years back.. probably doesn't look half as bad now since Obamacare passed

Then the dumbassed audience gets on to clappin....

    Then he does a similar thing to that Avlon fella by pointin out that he’s a Republican implyin that it is those nasty evil republicans what don’t “get” healthcare and then totally ignoring what he said – which was in my opinion the most astute and important point in that whole dang puppet show.

    And then there’s fatboy – didn’t his Mamma teach him to dress properly? I supose maybe the only kind of clothes he can stuff himself into are the ones with lots of that elastic in em, yes sir.
