Military to deploy Ebola response team within U.S.

• The thing to look out for is what's going on with all those closed military bases they turned into FEMA camps, are they ramping up?

• Was it not quagmire and Dr Frieden who've been telling all of us not to worry there would be no out break here. So which is it? All is calm or all hells about to break lose and putter will try and declare martial law? The laters seems more in line that the first.

  There are way many more professionals who know how to screen and what to look for than the military.

• Any chance of military deployment to the border to prevent infected individuals from entering the US? Silly question, I suppose.

• "Pentagon Spokesperson Rear Adm. John Kirby tells reporters that the team will not be sent to West Africa or to international destinations but is meant to work within the U.S. to prevent an outbreak."

  And just how will they do that? Perhaps in a Ebola camp? Two many unanswered questions, what is their role, where will they work from, are they or civilian authorities in control? How do just 30 people control this thing?

  I can see where this also will not end well...And President Obola still won't do the travel ban...

• Okay, this seriously freaks me out. Why the military? According to the link, not one single medical person on the response team will be from the military, so why does this need to be under the auspices of the military? Why can't Health and Human Services or the CDC just have their own response team made up of the exact same people?

  WHAT DOES THE MILITARY BRING TO THE TABLE THAT ANOTHER PART OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT?

  • Do you trust the military more or less than the federal government as a whole? Which do you like more?

    • I trust (more) whichever one has the least ability to abuse the power they have. Right now, so far as the average American citizen goes, that is the military because of Posse Comitatus. I imagine I would feel much differently once the checkpoints got set up. Not likely? Perhaps, and I certainly hope not. But I used to think the same thing about border patrol agents being used to screen citizens while the actual border sat a hundred miles away unattended.

      • Exactly. I trust the military because America has always constrained them by how we define their mission. Giving them a civilian mission within U.S. borders frightens me. We don't need the military to be in charge of a medical response team.

  • I was wondering the same thing. Decades ago they created civilian projects out of military ones (NASA is the one I'm specifically thinking of) to avoid the appearance of militarizing space. Now they are creating military organizations out of civil ones, why?
