Minn proposal could hike Alcohol Tax 300%. Tax on spirits would go from $5.03 per gallon to $17.82, wine $.95 per gallon to $8.24, beer from $2.40 per 31-gallon barrel to $13.97. Besides businesses closing, people crossing state borders in droves to buy booze and/or an upsurge in folks making their own, what could go wrong?

Texas does this all the time. THey look at how much they need (I use that term VERY loosly) in the state coggers, and they look at current sales of gasolin, tobacco, and alcohol. Some bean counter figures out that if they up the tax on these items, they can bring in x number of dollars in to play with. What they DON'T figure, is that by driving up the cost, and in the case of tobacco and alcohol constatly harping about how unhealthy they are, people quit buying, or at the very least, they buy less. Fewer sales=fewer tax collars, so now they have less money to work with and have to cut something. Here it is generally something we actually need, like education or border control.
And the smart people will discover they can order the stuff online, tax-free. Unless Minnesota has already plugged that loophole (like Mass.) and banned alcohol-by-mail sales.
They do these things over and over because "actions have consequences" is apparently a right-wing extremist, crazy, unworkable theory.
So how far i have drive to sell box wine for a hundred bucks! lol At that rate i bring 20 boxes get to fish for free!!! whoo hoo good fishin up there.

Liberals are so predictable with their total lack of economic literacy. Just heard that in one state (maybe New York) there is a bill in the state house that not only raises the minimum wage to around $10.00 but also offers a tax credit to employers who hire kids 20 and under. So for those who are 21 and up I guess they are unemployable.

That's what I find totally perplexing.
On the one hand, it's easy to look at their behavior and see a complete ignorance of basic econ 101. There's apparently no concept of supply and demand, incentives and disincentives, causes and effects. But then they turn around and say "we'll give tax breaks to provide incentives to hire teen/low-skilled labor".
Okay, so which is it? Do people respond to changes in the rules that increase or decrease incentives, or do they not? Why is it that first you say there is absolutely no effect of raising the min wage, but then you provide an incentive to hire, almost as if the raise IS a disincentive?
I'm always trying to figure these people out, but this one is perplexing. Maybe it's the tax angle? It may be that when they accpet basic econ laws, it's only as they apply to taxes.
But then again, that does not apply about lowering taxes to increase revenue.
Go figure.
I suspect the tax incentive will be applied to friends of the government and everyone else will in some way be ineligible. Its legalizing kickbacks.

Progressives are arrogant enough to believe that they can manage the largest economy in history by pulling various levers at certain times from a centralized position. Same ideas are expressed in "The Forgotten Man", which covers the FDR economic failures during the 1930s. That their thinking is inconsistent just demonstrates how they can't possibly do it.
And everyone who isn't worth ten bucks an hour, (that covers a LOT of people), will be unemployed. Quite simple. If they put a $50,000 price tag on a used Yugo, are you going to buy it?
