  • As a Kentuckian, this is quite disappointing to me. The smart, Reaganesque move is for the Republicans to welcome the Tea Party in. If establishment Republican candidates are so popular, why do they get beat in Republican primaries? At least we in Kentucky have Rand Paul. If he runs for president, the liberals and the Republican establishment will gang up against him, because they know he brings the real possibility of things being done differently. Both he and Ted Cruz don't seem to want to be a part of the Repuublican establishment club, and the establishment is concerned.

  • I'm sorry but Mitch and Boehner have rolled over for Quagmire more then Reggie ever thought of. At this point it's all about raiding the treasury.

  • First of all, what's wrong with some competition? Isn't this a good thing? Is not the US bsystem set up for this? McConnell does not own the seat. I see absolutely no reason why it is a bad thing to have some challenger(s) in the GOP primaries contrast and compare their vision with that of the incumbant. Second, to have McConnell say he's going to war and have him and the GOP establishment whine about the TEA party or anyone else challenging incumbants is purely self serving. Why does the party care who is running? Why have primaries at all if they are going to complain about people using them? These complainers are just corrupt.

    We are supposed to have a primany, choose a GOP candidate to run against the opposition, and have the party back this candidate, chosen BY THE VOTERS. How is this a bad thing?

    As someone mentioned above, the problem is the GOP establishment acts petulant when their pet favorite doesn't get selceted. The GOP won't back them fully. Instead, they offer meager support at best and do nothing but snipe and demean the candidate. It is the establishment GOP who seem to want only their candidates, and, in absence of that, won't support others. They have passion to oppose the TEA party and other GOP chellengers, but not Obama and the democrats. WTF do we want such people leading us?

    And the idea that they need to control the senate to be effective is self-serving BS. Hell, the GOP control the house and do little. Their excuse for inaction is they don't control more. How much is enough for them to do something? And as hisham noted above, when they controlled all - and McConnell and most of the GOP now in office were there then - they didn't do so much to act on the limited government and fiscal responsibility ideas they always compaign on. Many of us are tired of this bait and switch and want leaders who will do what they say.

    When the democrats are in a minority they certainly push with passion for their agenda, and are often effective at stifling a GOP majority when doing so. When they are in the majoprity they push their agenda strongly, and are again effective at getting it done. How about you GOP establishment types try some of this? If you did, and did it with passion and effectiveness, maybe there wouldn't be so many people wanting to challenge your complacent asses in primaries.

  • The only thing Pansyass Mitch and the rest of the Rino's assholes offer is "We ain't as bad as they are." But it is damn sure close. Frankly if this corrupt sleazebag does pull enough strings to get the nomination (and he will pull strings) I actually hope the Democommie wins. What the hell difference does it make? Then we can say, "You lost because the real conservatives that you hate so much stayed home."

  • It's time to get off the fence. All this partisan PC politics favors the progressives. The TEA Party is a fired up grass root movement of the conservative base. The response to a drastic left wing socialist swing in government that true Republicans see as a threat to America. If the true conservative push of the TEA Party fails I fear all is lost. The TEA Party movement needs to be celebrated by all conservatives. It needs to be the rally call to take America back from the socialism rotting her from within.

  • Well hell Mitch it's about time you stood up for something. If you are so anti tea party explain why you hired Rand Paul's guy to help you out here in Kentucky. Senator you must think all us hillybillies, hayseeds and rednecks don't read or understand dat drrrr new fangled thing called Internet. Just keep thing that and you along with Elien will be back in Louisville being private citizens you spineless prick. Your buddy Carl Brown will be so happy to know you are moving back. That way you two can pickup where you left off at.

  • Personally I don't understand this. The only thing I can think of is that the TEA Party opposition is tearing him apart. He should have embraced them, changed and walked the line... instead he wanted to keep it the same, keep it stupid and now he is acting like a dumb b*tch. He deserves to loose if he is going to do this IN the middle of the Obamacare issues when the party should keep it together.

  • At the risk of major thumbs down I tend to agree with McConnell. Why do Republicans go after each other like this? You never see Democrats eating their own. I would rather have a Republican who votes my way 75 percent of the time instead of a dumbass Democrat who votes 100 percent against me! Let's get a majority in the Senate and House before we starting weeding out "unpure" Republicans.

    Ann Coulter had a great column on McConnell and said:

    "It's the easiest thing in the world to be a purist, denouncing everyone else as a sellout and hack, while other people do the hard work of getting elected in blue states and preventing even rotten Republicans from voting for Obamacare. You want McConnell to stop all tax hikes? Give him a majority in the Senate."

      • Sorry Ghost and others wiht this line of debate, I have to disagree. Certainly replacing a weak, vasillating, complacent fench-sitter with a more conservative candidate who promises to fight and oppose this unconstitutional BS from the democrats has to be better for the country. We need people that can and WILL oppose this stuff. The problem is the GOP establishment most often don't, and don't want to run an all or nothing campaign for someone that will unless it is one of their good 'ol boys, who won't.

        When the GOP establishment candidates won in 2008 and 2012 I backed them as the better choice vs. the democrats. Better for America. I certainly wan't happy with them, but I backed them. Donated and campaigned for 'em too. But when the reverse is true all we hear is about how unfair they are being treated by being challenged. Not much leadership from this bunch. We can and should do better.

        Opposition to the establishment is also not about backing only puritanical or pure conservatives as mentioned above. It is about being effective. The current crop have no stomach for the fight against the democrats. We need people that can and WILL fight to oppose the willful destruction of our republic.

    • I would tend to generally agree , but -- admitting I don't follow McConnell much -- it seems like he himself needs to take that lesson first, rather than turning on the conservative wing of his own party in favor of the opposition.

      Who's going after who? It's the establishment Republicans who keep attacking the Tea Party Republicans. After all, this is a story about McConnell going after the Tea Party, not the other way around. Every time a Tea Party Republican candidate runs for office, the establishment works against them - then, if they win the nomination, the establishment refuses to give them any Republican money. Look what happened when Cruz tried to stop Obamacare. McConnell and McCain and the rest of these crumbums attacked him like he was number one on the FBI Most Wanted List. Did you hear Cruz attacking them like that? No. Don't listen to Coulter. She has an amusing writing style but she's gotten far too comfortable with the establishment politicians. I think the alien mind suckers got to her.

        • And I'm still saying who is attacking who? We live in a weird time, where people love to make themselves out to be a victim because they think it adds to their credibility somehow. THIS IS A CASE WHERE MCCONNELL IS ATTACKING THE TEA PARTY, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Without fail, the establishment attacks and then paints themselves as a victim. Not the other way around.

          But we don't need to disagree about this. Let's look at the results. How is McConnell doing so far advancing the conservative cause in America? Has he succeeded ANYWHERE?
