More people have cellphones than toilets

More people have cellphones than toilets. According to the United Nations, 6 billion of the world’s 7 billion people have access to a cellphone, but only 4.5 billion have access to a toilet. Maybe the U.S. government should stop handing out Obama phones and start handing out Obama toilets. The symbolism would be more appropriate anyway.

  • A typical case of when NOT to believe the UN ! They no doubt made up this factoid whilr sitting on their bottoms in Geneva,
    How could/would they know...........

  • I have a cell phone. Not a smart phone, just a cell phone with limited minutes and texting. I have 3 children who live out of town. That is where most of my texting goes. As a diabetic with other chronic health issues, I feel safer with a phone with me in case I need to call for help. But I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, and I answer if I feel like talking. The only ones I will take almost without exception are my kids.

  • Still got no mobile phone! And, as Maxwell Smart would say: "And loving it!"

If you want to see a movie with me, then plan ahead and meet me at the theatre ON TIME! I'm sick of this world of people standing around in theatre lobbies, saying into their cell phones, "Where are you?" Good God! Just agree to meet somewhere and get there! How damned hard is that?

    • Fully agree. Half the time my phone is not charged, and I never have it with me. My old girlfriend used to get mad at me because I would not answer the HOUSE phone, I told her I was paying the bill, it was there for MY convenience.
I hate phones, and have never felt so self important that I felt the need to be able to be reached 24/7/365. Answering machines were the BEST invention ever, I could screen my calls and decide if I felt like answering.

But then again, if I spend 20 min. a month on the phone, it has been a busy month for me.
(Note) When I worked for myself, it was different......I still screened my calls, but spent about an hour or so a week on the phone. Usually taking addresses and setting up face to face talks. 5 minutes to get a name, address, and time.

      • I'm notorious in my family for being a bad phone call. Basically, it's "Hello, what do you want?" although I polite-ify it up by saying "Hello, what's up?" Sounds better. I hate phones and if I just sat down to eat I don't feel obligated to jump up and answer the phone. In fact, now that I think about it, there's almost no situation where I feel obligated to answer the phone.

        • My son is worse...if you call my house and hear that the phone was picked up and nothing else...Say "Hello G" cuz that's him and *maybe* he will say "hello" back to you but that isn't guaranteed. Most of the time he just hands the phone over to me or his sister. But Hey! Autism Speaks!

          • My very favorite is when they call and ask who they are speaking with. Excuse me, you called ME, and you don't know who the f%^k you called? I have a LOT of fun with that.

Although I don't think I will ever top the guy that called and wanted to speak to the "homeowner", When I informed him that I "resided" in the house, and asked him a lot of questions he did not want to answer, such as the nature of the call, why he insisted on speaking to the homeowner, what business of his whether or not I WAS the homeowner, why he was reluctant to answer my questions, etc. he said he would call later.

Never heard from him again. I love messing with people like that on the phone.
Hell, I spent a whole 15 minutes making his life miserable.

  • My lady has four of the damn things (cell phones, not toilets). Her one daughter has 3 or 4, and one is always busy doing something.

I have one, and it is only used as a dictionary for the most part.
